VGK player Vykov suspended 20 games for violating PED policy. He's the second Knights player to get caught. Schmidt got 20 games last year.

What happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas. Perhaps the most interesting part of this is while the team steadfastly supported Schmidt last year, they are not supporting Vykov. They came out and said he did it ... union is considering filing a grievance.

Unusual result last night between Winnipeg & Edmonton - a scoreless tie that the Jets won in a shootout.
The other rarity- McDavid held off the scoresheet for the 2nd game in a row.

I turned on Sportsnet & Babcock was in the middle of his presser. He was ranting about penalty calls, hooking, tripping, bla, bla.
Anybody know what on earth he was talking about?
Leafs lost BTW, on a penalty shot in OT.

I agree, the overall start this season for the Leafs has been underwhelming. Though from Babcock's perspective they have grabbed 3 of 4 points without Tavares, however that game tomorrow night in Boston could be an uphill climb with Hutchinson in net.
I watched the third period and OT of the game tonight and I was impressed with the degree to which Columbus played positive hockey in addition to the usual standard of how hard that team works.

Leaks lose to Bruins again. Matthews caught with a Poppa Smurf hat on, Leaf fans are full of angst, Matthews, Marner and Babs shouting on the bench... Christmas came early!

Matthews needs to hire a style adviser. Between the mustache & the hat he looks like a hobo. I guess the Habs shouldn't feel so bad about losing to the Wild. They hand the Oilers their 2nd straight shutout - 3-0.

Ssbres remain hot to start the year. 8-1-1. Down 0-2 to the Sharks, they win 4-3 in OT.
Eichel's everywhere. Just one of those players.

I am not sold on Hutton and Ullmark, but the coaching change seems to suit the Sabres and there is no denying they have the kind of high end elite talent necessary to build something special in the league.
I still think that Buffalo is a little too dependent on the power play. The numbers would suggest the number of man advantages as well as the success rate are due for a correction.

The Habs beat up on the Stanley Cup champions twice already ... they're not doing all that bad, in my estimation ... they're going to have to fix that PK, though ... I'm kind of leaning towards the same opinion as a few others in that it could be a deciding factor as to whether we make the postseason or not ... fix it now ... Cheers.

It is nice to see the Canadian Armed Forces being recognized and thanked in Ottawa tonight. I enjoyed watching the pregame ceremony.
Unfortunately, I will probably flip over to the Lightning-Penguins game because Detroit v. Ottawa is just kind of meh.

Ottawa has been honouring our armed forces regularly ... the Belleville Senators have honoured the armed forces at every home game I've been to, as well ...
Cheers.

But he's 29 years old so will be 37 in hte last year of his contract. You have to hope his legs hold out, or the Cap doubles. Simiilar problem to what Bergevin faced with Price, except that you need an elite goalie less than you need an elite defenseman. An above average goalie can win it all as has been proven, an elite goalie often doesn't.

Either way, it's a tough blow for the Blues.

Makes no sense to play hardball with him and let him walk. He's likely their best player. If they can find someone in the summer to take the last year of Bonino's deal that frees up $4.1 million. No one is taking Turris from them.

Josi was so severely underpaid on this expiring deal that there was simply no way that he was going to give Nashville a huge break by taking 6 x 10 or 8 x 8. I think that, given what he would have been worth on the open market, Nashville actually made out okay here. Of course he is going to be less dynamic by the last 2-3 years of the deal but he skates well and thus far has avoided major injuries.
My immediate thought today was that Doug Wilson made out very poorly with the Karlsson deal. I understand the tax differential between California and Tennessee is worth close a million per season but Karlsson has a scary injury history.
The cap will be tight next season for the Predators, as they will be in the predicament where third pair d-men and fourth liners will have to basically earn the league minimum but there predicament is nowhere near as severe as the one the Leafs have to contend with.

4-1 Preds over Flames after 2 periods. Calgary being outshot 27-9. Jarnkrok with 2 shorties in the period for Nashville.

If Treveling is close to pulling the trigger on a deal or two, a performance like tonight might strengthen his resolve to do it. They are playing poorly and even Calgary's body language looks bad.

Agreed.
Tkachuk had a heck of a game. He tied it with 39 seconds left and scored with 2 seconds left on OT on a between the legs shot.
