The old farts in nhl head office love what vigneault said... they dont want to get involved... it's like all the leagues, the owners dont want to get involved, the players force them

3-0 TB after 2 periods. Bolts look like they are taking this over now.
In the last 5 periods Tampa has outscored Boston 10-1.

Halak is not playing like a 1A goalie in this series.
Tampa is really talented and balanced. It is hard to believe Stamkos has not played a single shift in the playoffs thus far.

Doesnt look like Stamkos is missed right now. If they do win the Cup without Stamkos in the lineup, that should provoke some interesting discussion in the Tampa front office.

The Islanders just grind and grind and win and win.
Jeje, the Flyers should be fine tomorrow since Vigneault claims he works so hard 20 hours per day he has no idea about anything in the world outside the bubble. A guy working that hard will find some chink in the Islanders' armor while he is pulling another video all-nighter tonight.

It is looking more and more likely that a Tampa-Vegas collision course is in the works.
There is still lots to be decided in the DAL-COL series though. Will the offensive strength of COL take the momentum back?
PHI-NYI...I give full credit to any non Flyers/Isles fans who are fully engrossed in this Trapapalooza. Not my cup of tea.

Radulov is a playoff beast. That’s one UFA signing Bergevin should have overpaid or at least not been such a piece of $hit to the player. Radulov is standing out in a series with McKinnon, Makar, and numerous other stars. But then he got whack of points for us vs the Rangers. A playoff Warrior. The kind of guy Bergevin is supposed to like. (Unless the player disagrees with the GM about $$)

3-2,now. Seriously, Khudobin is your goalie? I’m frankly surprised Dallas has gotten this far. As we’ve always said all you need is for your goalie to get hot.
Third period should be good.

Avs have come back to life. Since falling behind 10-0 on the shot clock, they have out shot Dallas 21-8 and scored twice.
They got a full 2 minute 5 on 3 PP in the final minute of the 2nd. Makar scored 11 seconds into the power play. They open the 3rd with 90 seconds of PP time.

And Colorado is going with Francouz because Grubaeur is injured. The only team left with a high $ goalie is Tampa & that contract doesn't kick in until next season.

A couple of years ago my brother-in-law started joking around with the old 'hey Max, what's the verdict in Habsland about Radulov and Sergachev or Drouin and Alzner.'
Obviously I cringed every time I heard it because I did not want to trade Sergachev for Drouin, nor did I want to sign Alzner. And I half-heartedly tried to explain to him that technically the dummies in the GM chair and pro scouting that recommended Alzner saw that move as totally separate from whether Sergachev remained in the Montreal organization or not. And that, in addition, trading for Drouin did not technically mean that management had no interest in keeping Radulov.
But whatever. It smarts because there is no denying in the summer of 2017 a winger was subtracted (Radulov) and a winger was added (Drouin) and likewise a LHD was subtracted (Sergachev) and a LHD was added (Alzner).
The tale of the tape is not flattering (and that does not even get into the issue of who is harder on the puck and playoff clutch, etc.): Radulov - 212 games played, 71 goals, 107 assists, 178 points Drouin - 185 games played, 38 goals, 76 assists, 114 points
And there are no numbers to share between Sergachev and Alzner because they have played in different leagues.
I digress...I think I need a cold pop or five to make myself feel better.

To say that I love that the Booins have collapsed is an understatement. Every time I visit the Booins board, they are the most arrogant fans going. The Laff fans are childishly ignorant and I can forgive that, but the Booins fans think they are owed a cup every year.

The Avs have handed Dallas this game with a dumb penalty by Jost followed by Makar doing a Steve Smith imitation, Two goals in 32 seconds made it 5-2.
Wait, Khudobin looks brutal on Nicushkin's shot. Now 5-3.

Jkr, yeah, he is a Leafs fan. I know that franchise has done so many stupid things over the years that hotstove banter and comebacks are a plenty, but somehow as a Habs fan I grew up basically ignoring them so I rarely bother needling him or paying much attention to that entire deranged fan base.
I guess Trotz and Vigneault are both taking the long-view (optimistic in particular for the Flyers since they are down 2-1 going into game 4) that avoiding the starter playing back to back games will keep him fresh for the next game and the next series.

I always thought that Alzner was signed to replace Emelin, which in my opinion is a more accurate comparison. We lost Emelin in the expansion draft. Which played another role in that disastrous summer. Bergevin couldn't sign either of Markov or Radulov before the draft, because if he did then he would have to expose them as signed players. And of course the closer you get to the UFA start date, the more leverage a player has. All in all, just a cluster-beep of a summer. Which is what we should see next summer as well!

All four series now at 3-1 with all games from now on being elimination games.
Boston and Avs up against the wall tonight. If they both lose, the added little bonus is two of our picks move up one spot (STL 2nd and WSH 3rd).
Tampa...show no mercy tonight!
That Dallas Colorado game yesterday was a crazy wild ride. Amazing to watch rosie cheeked Makar growing in his role, even with that highlight reel blunder that lead to the Stars fifth goal. The Avs last two goals were both deflections that went blocker side high, and Khudobin looked the same on both shots...about half an hour late. Tonight should be a good one.

And of course the closer you get to the UFA start date, the more leverage a player has. All in all, just a cluster-beep of a summer. Which is what we should see next summer as well! Probably Bergevin's worst moment as a GM, which is saying something. He makes the Weber trade and signs Radulov in the summer of 2016 and in the short run, things work out. The Habs win the division, both Radulov and Weber have solid years but the Habs get bounced in the 1st round against the Rangers due to lack of scoring depth. So what does he do? Trades Sergachev for Drouin in June 2017, which made sense, but in July he lets Radulov and Markov walk and signs Karl Alzner. Plus we subtract Emelin and Beaulieu, as BC pointed out. Ouch. 3 years later and the Habs still haven't recovered. What burns me most about that summer is the whole point of the Weber trade in 2016 was to WIN NOW. Push the chips to the middle of the table because Weber wasn't getting any younger. And when he traded Sergachev for Drouin, I thought it made sense AS LONG AS he kept Radulov, especially, but Markov too. But he f&&cked that up. The Drouin trade is getting close to being a bust, and even if it's not we can all agree that Sergachev is the young top 4 LH dman we need while Drouin, even on his best day is a dumb hockey player and soft with a capital S. But the issue at the time was that we needed to add to what we had in 2016, and Berg ended up either losing his nerve or being too arrogant with Radulov. Whatever the reason we ended up treading water and ultimately getting worse as it's been all downhill since then. Other than this nice little bubble run that we didn't even deserve. I still hate the Subban/Weber trade, even in hindsight, but Bergevin was atrocious in the summer of 2017 and slammed shut whatever window that team had.

I can't see any of the series going 6 games. Vancouver has best shot of making a series out of it. They have a lot of talent, I underestimated their skill. Hughes god he is good. Pettersson, Markstrom they definitely need to re-sign him. Toffoli been playing lights out. Boston looks in deep trouble. Halal looks tired. That 2nd goal he has to have that. Islanders do they ever play great team hockey. Speaks volumes what team structure and positioning can do.
