I always thought that Alzner was signed to replace Emelin, which in my opinion is a more accurate comparison. We lost Emelin in the expansion draft. Which played another role in that disastrous summer. . And of course the closer you get to the UFA start date, the more leverage a player has. All in all, just a cluster-beep of a summer. Which is what we should see next summer as well! But you could only lose one player. Here's my approach. You don't trade Sergachev, and you don't have to protect him. You keep Radulov and protect him. You sign Markov and don't protect him. Vegas was not going to pick up a 38/39 year old defenseman at 5.5 or $6MM. Same situation (in a way) coming up with Weber. I wouldn't protect him. Seattle is not going to pick him and worst case scenario, if they do, is you've gained $8mm in CAP space without losing Juulsen or Brook or some other younger player.
At least that's the plan if you're not strategizing a re-build. If you are, it's different but you definitely don't trade Sergachev, especially for a winger with some attitude issues.

MB will protect Weber, Drouin, Danault for sure... they're not going anywhere

You are right and he is wrong.
Watching the Tampa game. Sergachev looks REALLY good. Quick decisions, great passes, strong on the puck. If only we’d had a chance to have a guy like that on the team.

Kucherov is out right now. He took a high stick from guess who - Chara. An accident of course. He did come back but took himself out of the game during the 2nd period. First Svechnikov & now Kucherov. How many guys is Chara going to knock out of the playoffs?

Krejci ties it with about 2:30 to go. Going to OT.
Oh my. Michael Hutchison starting for Colorado. They are desperate.
Bishop for the Stars.

I wish someone would take out his knees... who else is there to be afraid if in the Bruins... their not big, they're not bad...

I enjoy seeing Chara lose....again. Forty three years old. He’s going to end sometime. Unfortunately, Marchand will probably retire at the same time, citing safety reasons.

After Hedman scores Chara Marchand Brian Burke saying all kinds of nice things about Chara. Methinks he’s a Jekyll and Hyde. The high stick on Kucherov came out of nowhere. There was no need to bring his stick up. None. He makes it look like an accident but why raise his stick at all? Why drive a guy’s head into a stanchion?

Glad Colorado won. I really like the way the play. Dallas has some skill but they I find they are close to crossing the line sometimes, especially with guys like Perry in the lineup. A good example was after the 6th goal last night. Girard was coming off the blue line to join the celebrate & he gets cross checked from his blind side by Comeau. All he got for that cheap shot was a roughing penalty.
There is no strong goaltending on either side so "anything can happen".

Dallas were flat as can be to start the game and never recovered, but Bishop did not look fully recovered.

Netminding is their achilles heel. Be something if they had Price and met Tampa in Finals. With Tampa netminder doing Pat r.c ick Roy impersonation. Playing out of his mind, with 5 overtime wins. Be interesting semi finals, with Islanders and Tampa. Isles are playing great team hockey, up against a power house. How will it play out? Can't wait for Vegas/ Canucks game.

The goaltending in these series and these teams is interesting, no?
Leading contenders to win the Cup.....East
Tampa. Expensive goalie playing well Philly, inexpensive, good young goalie playing well, about to be eliminated Isles - VArloov, 32 year old goalie, average cost ($5MM), average play Boston - Back up goalie, now elimminated.
West
Colorado - onto their 3rd and 4th string goalies Dallas - Flip a coin as to who to start Vegas - Lehner, Fleury? Canucks - good goalie about to be paid well, and soon to be eliminated
Outside of Tampa, it's hard to present an argument that you need an elite goalie to win.

I'm pretty sure Stamkos isn't playing in these playoffs. There's been no mention of him at all. Kucherov is indeed a question mark. He is a huge part of that PP.

After Hedman scores Chara Marchand Good to see. Also bad to see. Tells their level of will to win. Chara said in interview keeping his options open about next season. Wonder if he be good fit on Habs?

1-1 after one between Dallas & the Avs.
Don't know if Colorado can survive Hutchison who allowed a truly brutal goal.

They should just award the Conn Smythe to MacKinnon now. It's not even close.
