Buffett sold his airline stock and bought up government debt. Treasury Bill's. He said airlines carrying so much debt. Mostly on new aircraft. With estimated 80% shutdown what are they going to do with them? He said they also need mass lay off of pilots, mechanics and many secondary jobs. Feds pumping money into industries like this keep stock market from collapse. To keep us from going in to a 1930s style depression. In form of bail out packages. But how long can they keep this up?

But opening up this summer could be mistake. I'm convinced it would be, since it's risking both the summertime action as well as paying a heavy price next season, I'm assuming they'd have to push next season back a bit. But if right now they cancelled this season, planned a late start to next season and made sure they could just cut 20 games from the start of the season, if required, they could deal with a 2nd wave in the fall if it came to pass. By not giving up on this season, they're risking a bigger chunk of next season, too, and a lot of credibility. Any puns to be made with NHL ? National Health Liability ? (c)

I'm not going to buy into spending a trillion dollars to save the airlines or tourist industry. And here is the fun part....Checkbook Santa is not trying to save the oil industry either. You know that famous V recovery? Good luck with it when the two industries get wiped out for the foreseable future. If the building industry collapses too, a very high probability, we are in a 30s depression. Full stop. These are the real and mandatory discussion we should be having. But.... Look squirrel....

I was out and it looks like virus is a distant memory. I saw maybe 5-10 people out of 100 wear a mask. Sure, they were walking outside, but still, at stoplights, there were several....and no "social distancing". No worries......

Greece dropped almost all restriction other then distancing and is starting flights.
Ummm......I'm not so sure that there should be this much bravado. We are still keeping the masks on, social distancing and we are still practicing high level of hygiene.

You fellows see on CNBC today, USA pissed because China was able to stop spread of virus from Wuhan to other cities in China. But they with held accurate numbers from rest of world until they signed a 250 billion trade deal with USA. If they never did that it would have stopped the spread to rest of world. China being able to keep it in Wuhan proved they could have contained the virus.
Goes right back to the love of money, is root of all evil

We are still keeping the masks on, social distancing and we are still practicing high level of hygiene. We have one outstanding confirmed case in Kingston ... Costco here is now finally insisting on masks while in the store ... everywhere we've gone recently people have been respecting social distancing ... the longest I've waited in line to get into a store is maybe 10-12 minutes max ... investments that were getting beaten down made a huge recovery in April ... that said, the worst might be yet to come ... there will be significant damage to investment portfolios as businesses fail to reopen and unemployment continues to grow ... private businesses are taking a huge hit ... Kingston is noted for its bars, restaurants, and patios and Ontario breweries will start delivery of draught beer on or around the 15th of this month (got it from a local pub owner) ... he also told me that they're talking about taking 10 parking spots to create another patio for the pub that will respect social distancing .... those are indications that local businesses may be opening 'in some capacity' in the not so distant future ... I learned of this two weeks ago and Ford is now saying that he may reopen the Greater Kingston Area before the rest of the province ... the problem Mrs. Dis and I have with this is that a lot of COVID-19 cases to hit the city came from out of town and we're sure to attract more visitors should the GKA reopen earlier than the rest of the province ... take it as it comes, I guess ... Cheers.

The store had strict entry, which was good, but I also saw groups of several people outside, no masks, close together, having a good old time. Someone forgot to tell them that spittle still travels outside. Contrast that with a meeting we had with a local councilor and three people. No masks, but 10-12 feet between us. Watching us from afar would look odd. Then there are the protests. At this point, anyone who gets the virus pretty much owns the consequences. It's not like we didn't have 3 months of virus hell to educate everyone.

I just like to watch China and what they do over money. Then try and lie their way out of it afterwards. Same as NHL not wanting to give up the playoff money. Just how far will it drive them?? There Is a new tv contract coming up next year with NBC, and new CBA.

Cheers. I'm not seeing th same concern in the heart of the universe, aka Toronto. It doesn't help when we see the Mayor of Toronto walking around in a crowded park, not respecting social distancing while pulling his mask down to talk with people ... leadership starts at the top and both Trudeau and Ford are guilty of breaking social distancing, too ... We went to Costco this morning and they were handing out free masks (all of the employees wear masks) and a lot of people felt they didn't need them ... I asked if they had a mask-on policy and, contrary to what I told you earlier, they don't, they 'recommend' that you wear one while in the store ... still about a 50/50 split in those who do wear them and those who don't ... social distancing is hard to do but a lot of folks were just trying their best ... took empties to the beer store this morning and they're very well organized ... like a lot of retailers in the area, they've started contracting out security to various companies and access is regulated by them ... local banks have also hired security to regulate access ... Where there's a will, there's a way ... They had a protest against racism here in Kingston earlier today ... the big news was that the Kingston City Police would not be attending the protest per se, but would only get involved if social distancing wasn't honoured ... You can educate people all you want but in the end, they make their own choices ... yet, a lot of them will be the same people who will be at the polls and they'll be looking to blame someone should a second wave shut down the country/province ... national/provincial/civic levels leadership would be wise to stay vigil on this ... voters people will probably remember a devastating second wave much more than any positives ... Cheers.

This past weekend down here in Sherbrooke, there was lines outside the stores, with 2 meter distance between each person. But that in all purposes was just to wash your hands. Once you got in and squirted your hands with sanitizer it becomes a free for all. Canadian tire was packed and I can guarantee you people were a lot closer than 2 meters everywhere I walked. Off hand I would say there was over 100 people in the store. Walmart was the same. The only one that seemed to control the flow was home depot were a certain amount of.people were allowed in at a time.
Money talks I guess.

I guess it depends on people's attitudes and also the density of population as it pertains to places such as supermarkets. My sister was telling me a couple of weeks ago that in her neighborhood of Toronto (the Beaches) that Loblaws felt borderline out of control and plenty of customers and store employees were not wearing masks.
Have any of you boys ventured out for a proper haircut since all of this started? I still have not. Probably against my better judgment I have put that aspect of my appearance for video conferencing in the hands of my wife. My eight year old son is on strike. He won't let her touch his hair. His normal hockey flow is pretty out of control.

What is this " barber" thingy you guys are talking about? Hmmm?? A decade ago (or more) i bought two pro pieces of hair clippers and haven't seen this barber thingy since then. Every 3 weeks sides get 3/4" trim and ever 6 weeks, top goes to 1" and sides to 3/4 inches plus wife does the back trimming. In the shower, 5 to 10 minutes tops. It's a little bit of a learning curve, shoe lace level, but once you get it down, very fast, very easy. It starts with getting PRO equipment. Oster Fast Feed and Andis T Outliner. Buy once and never buy again. I'll start a thread if you guys want to get into it. BTW...it wasn't about money saving. My business was crazy busy when i started. I just couldn't waste 2 hours to get a haircut. www.amazon.ca/dp/B001JJBC9Y?slotNum=6&linkCode=g12&imprToken=X5rbbQwGSAFrJw5YXb.e5w&creativeASIN=B001JJBC9Y&tag=affiliatec010-20www.amazon.ca/dp/B000143C0K/ref=dp_cerb_1Plus a set of spacing combs for each.

I got out earlier this evening ... I was starting to look like a Yeti ... like Costco, they have masks and sanitizer, but unlike Costco, they insisted on wearing masks and using the sanitizer ... feeling normal again ... Cheers.

If I could invent a really effective Flowbee Vacuum hair clipper, I'd be a billionaire. The biggest rick in cutting ones hair is getting an even cut. Unfortunately hair has "direction" so one must master the art of "pulling" ones hair while trimming. It's the same thing the barber does with comb-n-cut. If there was a means to raise the hair and cut it......even Seventeen could do it.....if he's not bald.

We have one outstanding confirmed case in Kingston ... Costco here is now finally insisting on masks while in the store ... Cheers. In march when we were at Costco in Kamloops, they insisted on masks and had a 175 person limit on people in the store. We were in a line-up for about an hour and they don't let you in until someone has left. It was checked carefully. Yesterday, we were at Costco in Kelowna. No line-ups. No store limit. They were handing out masks but if you didn't take one no one berated you. Most people in the store were polite enough about keeping their distance, but you couldnt help but pass close to someone at times. I didn't think it was much of a risk. I didn't loiter by anyone for any time. Looser than in March, but ok. The distancing thing has really been pounded in in BC and most people follow it. Can't speak for the denser lower Mainland (yes you can chuckle at the innuendo) as I haven't been down there (another aspect pounded into us). What I'm mostly worried about is Washington State. For a group of people who are a lot like Canadians, they sure aren't when it comes to Covid. That American attitude prevails there as well. I do not want them 'visiting' here. Their money's not worth it.

They predicted more cases of COVID-19 once Kingston went to stage 2 .... the city's second wave has started to take root over the past few days ... an aesthetics shop in our neighbourhood, Binh's Nail and Spa (my wife's regular stop), just reported 10 new cases and more than 200 people have to get tested ... they're also under investigation for not adhering to social distancing practices ... that comes soon after the region's health officer stated that the only way Kingston is going to get more cases is if they come from out of town ... case in point; before the Binh's outbreak the newer cases of COVID-19 came from people either visiting the city or locals leaving the area and bringing it back with them ... that said, in addition to American boating enthusiasts bypassing Customs and docking in the Port of Kingston, license plates from other provinces have been spotted in the city, as well ... edit: apparently a large group of women chartered a bus from Toronto to get their nails done in Kingston ... this is via text, so I'm looking for a hard reference ... just received a text that my golf course has two confirmed cases ... one is a golfer (male) who came to Kingston to get a round of golf in and the other is a staff member who caught it off the golfer ... one thing I mentioned to the owners was, canvass people you don't know to see if they came in from out of town to golf ... if they are, then deny them services ... hopefully they're allowed to do that ...

Apparently Americans are driving up to the border and telling the officers that they are driving to Alaska. Then they show up in places like Banff or Jasper.
They need to start turning those people back.

A clarification about why i kept looking and mentioning about Canada being "top 10" in deaths.
For several weeks, while very hard hit countries were reducing their death rates, we were stubbornly holding on to high rates. I wanted to know why, but since it's an inconvenient fact, no propaganda outlet, err, media was looking into it.
It was very simple thinking. What were we doing wrong in recovering patients. Was our system being conservative in their treatments? Were we looking and trying some of the other procedures the hard hit italiens were trying? Obviously, if i got infected, i want to comfort in that in Canada, we are using the best methods.
Clean bed sheets are not enough assurance.
We are finally out of the "top 10" title but still not too thrilled about our death rate. Other countries were hit way harder and brought them down far more on a percentage basis.

JUST THE FACTS....and not politics. Or propaganda media desperate to discredit ANYTHING Trump says. Or Dr Google and Dr Twitter banning pro HCQ publications based on their vast experience....writing computer code.
Deaths per million....
Greece...20 Canada...238 US.......498
Serious critical...
Greece...17 Canada...2281 US......18020
Note something here....by population, Canada has more serious/critical then US.
I wrote before that Greece has 5 tons of chloroquine and huge quantity of hydroxychloroquine.
Note..Lancet study has been retracted.
Note 2...if I or my wife get infected and my doctors doesn't want to consider it based on politics, I will get rid of him.
