We're gettimg the Pfizer jab tommorrow. I'm wearing a Laffs sweater incase i whimper like a puppy before it's shot. Thankfully, they allow caregivers so if i faint, da wife will carry me out on her shoulders..... BTW....3 phone calls to get the right place. Only about 45 minutes this morning and a shot the next day. Another thing....3 vaccines have three methods of distribution. Pharmacies and doctors get the AZ, clinics and centers the Moderna (normal household freezers) and hospitals get Pfizer because of the extreme cold freezer requirements. Lots of supply in all of them RIGHT NOW. Ontario age for Pfizer/Moderna is 60 as of April 2nd. How do you know you are getting Pfizer? And how did you get an appt. so quickly? I know 2 people classed as essential workers ( one is my wife) that have received a Pfizer shot that was booked through our public health group. Those shots just happened in the last 2 weeks. I received an email from that public health group on March 29 inviting me to make an appointment for a vaccination based on my age group (over 65). The earliest I could get was April 28th. It will be in the same place ( our local arena)that my wife received her vaccination so I'm hoping it's not AZ.

Ten minute wait...she gave me the option to go book at a pharmacy/doctor OR a clinic OR at the local hospital. Each with their own supplies as stated above. Called the special number at the local hospital, who booked us for tomorrow. I triple checked and it's Pfizer. We actually have to walk through the emergency doors and follow directions to the jab room. Nothing special or different from what anyone else can do. Also briefly brought up AZ and she told me lots of people are walking out of their appointments if they find out it's AZ so they tell you up front AND you know because of the location. Also...they have a lot of vaccines and annoyed because people are taking their sweet time. That's why they skipped 65 and went directly to 60.

A bit of a clarification...
I posted earlier about 60 and over and I got the appointment next day. Jkr brought up the appointment time difference.
Sooo..I wondered why....
There MAY BE a difference because Toronto and Peel are hot spots. Or not. I don't know and I don't know where you can get that info. It MAY BE that if you are in a small town with a regional hospital AND outside the hot spot zones you may be getting slower allocations. MAYBE.
Or appointments have changed dramatically because of supplies. MAYBE.
Check with your regional covid response phone number.
Another interesting thing I learned from the call.....they are telling which vaccines and where up front. Apparently people are walking out of their AZ appointments so they mention that up front. I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised but I can see some under informed person hear that their pharmacy is jabbing and think they can choose there. They book.. and then "suprised".

My last update above is reference to what is happening now.. From March 25th to April 1st UK varient....has spread like wildfire. From 5,882 to 10,856. It's not slowing down. SA varient....from 251 to 313. This is the most dangerous varient because it eludes our vaccines. Thankfully, it's spreading VERY SLOWLY. For now... Brazil varient.....from 193 to 483. It's more then doubled in a week and moving very fast in BC. So a lot of bad news and a tiny bit of good news in that the most dangerous SA varient isn't as contagious as the other two. At this rate of vaccination, my guess is that we beat the infections versus vaccinations curve and getting it under control by the end of the month. Hang in there...there is light at the end of this miserable tunnel... And guys...PLEASE do not drop your guard. If anything, these more infectious varients need even more caution. health-infobase.canada.ca/covid-19/epidemiological-summary-covid-19-cases.html#VOC

In Quebec, hospitals are dispensing Pfizer/BioNTech, pharmacies Moderna and the temporary facilities (e.g. Palais des congrès etc.) AstraZeneca. Currently in Montreal vaccination rates are: 60% for ages 60-64, 70% for ages 65-69, 80% for ages 70-79 and 85% for ages 80+

There is starting to be a bit of pushback on Legault, not from conspiracy nuts, but from legit doctors, complaining about the slacking off of various measures over the past few weeks, with the variants arriving and making everything worse.
A gym here in Quebec city got 120 people infected, and those 120 led to at least 20 other contagion sites. It's likely the gym employee who went to work knowingly with covid, will have killed someone, directly or indirectly. But the gym was known for very lax enforcement of the rules, so it's not a huge surprise. That gym is going to have issues for a long time, since it really contributed to getting Quebec City back on an 8 PM curfew. Trust me, 8PM is damn early to *have* to be home.
A lot of things will need to be re-examined after this, including what counts as essential services. Way, way too much counts in that category right now, so a lot of people are still going to work, getting sick, and dying. Subways in Montreal are still full.

As for vaccines....I don't know with absolute certainty, but I think here they wanted to separate access to three levels. In theory, Moderna only needs -20C which is the lower end of household regular freezers. Pfizer need special deep frezers to -70C. I don't know if regular freezers are standard equipment for smaller pharmacies. Hopefully, with what is on hand, we get 8-9 million doses in arms this month.

BTW.....as I was writing the above post, I get a notification from the surveillance camera. There was a raccoon flying past the cameras....and a coyote with fork and knife a few seconds behind.
I hope they don't do their life dance within the camera range. I've seen one and it's pretty gory.

So here is some good news... Doses scheduled or recently in...Month of April...plus a few days... Pfizer.....5.2 million Moderna....2.05 million AZ from US...1.5 million JJ has no figure and no future AZ doses shown. Are they stopped? Already delivered....7.44 million Already vaccinated one dose....6 million...14%....population, 38 million. Soooo.....8.7 million jabs April....total 14.7 million...or about 38% of overall population will be vaccinated. Give or take a few points because the numbers and dates don't match exactly. Given the most vulnerable will be vaccinated, there may not be a collapse of the infections, but "should be" a very large drop in deaths. End of May....another 6 million from Pfizer/Moderna. Not counting JJ and AZ future drops....Total 20.7 million....54% of overall population. But a bit of magic mushroom math..... If we take out 18 and under....about 30.5 million adults....or 67% of adults vaccinated, then add back all children, it gives us 74% of everybody either very resistant or vaccinated....and herd immunity by the end of May? P.S....if they decide to change the 4 month delay, throw the entire post and numbers in the garbage. www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/prevention-risks/covid-19-vaccine-treatment/vaccine-rollout.htmlwww.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/world/covid-vaccinations-tracker.html

Vancouver Canucks season is over. They have "under 20" players infected, included some who've infected their families, and some who needed IV from team medical staff. The Brazil variant has hit them hard, and it becomes so contagious, so fast, it slipped through all the covid protocols. We can see why they were so paranoid about the Habs for essentially 1 case.
I can't see them playing another game.
As I'm writing this, other sources (Dreger on Twitter) are saying "no severe symptoms", so really, who knows.

Here's something to bet on.....
I tried to find when the next AZ shipment is comming and nothing. Looked at Indias covid problem and its horrendous. So likely delay from there. Plus Africa is burning.
Given that the Germans are recommending that under 55 with AZ prime shots get Pfizer booster shots.
Given the reliable Pfizer supply.
Add hopefully more Pfizer from US side.
Bold prediction.....the booster shot of AZ prime shots is going to be Pfizer.
See my bookie Stealalot for bets!

Sooooo.....just got it and it was a "pleasant" experience. A little apprehensive since the last time I got a vaccine, dinosaurs were a thing.....
Next shot is July 25th, 16 weeks on the button.
They were very well organized. Ten minute check in process, about two minutes for the shot and 15 minute wait time. It took me longer because i wanted as much info as possible.
About 80% capacity. Same thing yesterday and Friday. I'm guessing they have a 100 people staff that I could see. About 15 or so jabbers.
Very pleasant staff and helpful. There wasn't anyone who looked disinterested or bored with their job. Alert and active.
The Pfizer has a thawing period and a "must use" open time period. I asked for an empty vile as a memento, nope, every vial must be accounted for so no theft and black market. Smart!
No one knew who did AZ or Moderna or Pfizer. This hospital only has Pfizer. Yesterdays info on who does what from the first conversation still holds.
BUT......and this is important.....I did NOT see anyone wear their surgical masks properly. Not a single person that I checked. There were no under-nose wearers, but, they all did not seal their nose bridge area. The issue may be that wearing them for hours on end becomes insufferable or they are part time staff and not use to it. I wore my 3M n95 and was HOT....but ignorable.
Given my overall experience, start to finish, I can't see why anyone should complain.

Similar experience to yours - very well run, easy process and painless (I've never really been bothered by needles but they have gotten much better now that they use very fine needles so you never feel a thing). The nurse told me what I was getting before the injection but I already knew - OTMH is giving only Pfizer at this time. Very slight bruising and soreness around the jab site today but nothing serious. My next jab is also scheduled for the 25th of July, although I'm hopeful that they could move that up as time goes by. Don't hesitate when you have an opportunity - get your jab.

Don't hesitate when you have an opportunity - get your jab. Wait WHAT? I had a tingling and hot flashes! I thought it was that lovely young thing....and all that time it was you. Uhggggg... I'm not bothered by pain at all but for some reason, needles turn me into a 3 year old. I hammed it up and had a ball with the needle lady who just couldn't stop laughing at the 260 pound baby. Of course between her and my wife, i hit every branch of the "you big baby" tree. Just a tiny tick and done. Zero pain till now....although I'm working on my pity party. Zero success! I criticize a certain vaccine because it deserves it. Otherwise i have no time for anti-vaxxers. Argue that one should minimize them to must-need or avoid non-life threatening like the flu vaccine, but this is a MUST HAVE. Is there a risk, sure, we don't have a decade of data...but we have a ten mile convoy of trucks with body bags. To any anti-vaxxer.....get a brain. With the varients are far more virulent and infective, you are playing Russian roullete....on a daily basis.

Guys....i got a couple of pm's about how fast i got my jab appointment.
I phoned in at Saturday morning and was due to age, given 3 options including schedule it online.
I picked Pfizer and the hospital and phone. When i spoke to the scheduler, i had a choice of Sunday or next Friday. They had a few hundred open spots for Sunday. Afterwards i found out they were at 80% all three weekend days.
Sooo....despite my devine mod powers...*laughs*.....no special treatment or insider track. Simply took advantage of what was in front of us.
Also....highly likely that because i live in a hot zone, there are more jab resources in my area. The hospital is walking distance from us.

I really want to start this post with a string of cussing... From April 1 to April 8... UK.....more the DOUBLED....from 10,856 to 23,611. We're probably looking at 35,000 by this time next week. SA.....great news....it's moving very, very slowly....313 to 345. This is the one that can slice through vaccines. Brazil....like UK, it more then doubled......483 to 1,039 Just horrible news that won't abate for at least a week or more. The only thing that is good news, as if a disease is good news, the worst varient,, SA, is showing to have very low transmisilbility. At least so far, Buckle down....it's not going to last...if I spend some time I think I can estimate at the tipping point were vaccines can impede transmissions, but I can't find info on how stupid people can be. Best guess, end of this month and were past the worst permanently.... health-infobase.canada.ca/covid-19/epidemiological-summary-covid-19-cases.html#VOC

these are the people you expect to get sick, but somehow they're immune. don't get it. We're having problems with the Queen's element here in Kingston ... I took Mrs Dis to an appointment downtown last Thursday and Breakwater Park (see waterfront Kingston) was packed with hundreds of Queen's/St Lawrence College students ... they were in groups of five, as per the directive, but there were literally dozens of groups of five everywhere ... there were a few wearing masks, but for the most part the kids were playing the 'I'm invincible' game ... to be fair, I told Mrs Dis that we could have been two of those kids back in the day ... but we're not, and while I haven't completely grown up yet, what those students were doing was wrong ... 70% of the cases we have in Kingston come from the Queen's neighbourhoods ... the city has since fenced off Breakwater Park, as well as, other areas of the city that were packed with students/people ... it's not like the police aren't doing anything, either ...

In the old days....when university students felt invincible....
A military truck would pull up and out came Military Police Unit. The minute the first boot hit the ground is the minute ones chances of a broken leg went up astronomically. These guys were brought in to bully the bullies in soccer matches so students loudmouths were kind of kindergarden practice...
I enjoyed their company once....full on...and thankfully i was way faster....
