Influenza kills at 15 to 20 times less then the coronavirus. Symptomatic illness to death is about..... 0.1% versus 2% But.... What is curious and frightening in that link is that even with a full Western medical treatments, the death rate after hospitalization for influebza is up on the 8%-9% range. Versus 20% for coronavirus. Bear in mind, that's a "normal" seasons, I would hate to see that number if the hospital system had to deal with several million. So what gives between symptomatic, hospitalization and death rate? On paper, the hospitalization to death rate is only about 2 or so times more between normal influenza and coronavirus. The answer would be that China is way under-reporting the infection rate, which would make the virus just another influenza, OR they are way under-reporting the death rate. Given the massive measures, extremely likely. Undesputable source... www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.htmlWhat has me scratching my head is.....why China is not letting in the CDC, why would anyone trust Chinese "facts" and most important, why would China go to these extremes if it was glorified influenza.

One of the things that worried me is the close relationship china has with African nations, iran and Pakistan. In fact, Pakistan and iran went out of their way to denounce Trumps measures against Chinese as "racist", while celebrating their "very close relationship" with China. Iran now has six dead, claiming that there are only a few dozen infected, but Iranian population is rioting and claiming the hospitals are exploding with patients. Mild reporting.... www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/02/iran-shuts-schools-cultural-centres-coronavirus-kills-200223000740899.htmlMuch harder line... m.jpost.com/Middle-East/Irans-government-and-media-lied-about-coronavirus-outbreak-riots-erupt-618431That's very worrisome....but my nightmare is Pakistan. They don't have the resources to contain the virus like china does and if it hits there, guaranteed there will be a pandemic. Worse of course is that other than a few kingdoms, the ME is a virus powderkeg....Pakistan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Jordan....and then there is India, Bangladesh.... Hope I'm wrong, but normally, right about now, I'm buying a ticket to go back to the old country for the beginning of May. Now....not so fast. Way better to be prepared to bunker down in Canada then travel and find out within a few weeks over there, that I'm stuck a third world hospital system.... Pandemic...50% Pandemic if Pakistan gets it....100% . Edit...the reason I'm putting Pakistan spreading a pandemic because it has millions of people spread through the ME and there is a kind of "underground railroad" of migration desperately looking for work. They move through the ME countries by car and bus, much harder to isolate and control.

Here is a math problem.... CBC tonight...verbatim...facts from China. 80% of coronavirus are mild and "only" 2% death rate. Sound worrying but not horrifying... What we didn't hear was the obvious....20% are severe and require hospitalization, of which 10% of die. Simple math that eludes the CBC. Prime example the CBC "shaping" the news and intentionally downplaying an enormous issue. We simply do not have enough isolation wards to accommodate more then a few thousand. If we get hit, we will have to turn stadiums into field hospitals.....but even there, I'm pretty sure we don't have enough field equipment to accommodate tens of thousands. The main source would be our military. (Dis, can you get the figurss of how many military field hospitals we can set up?) Don't worry...be happy. I've been following it here and there but we first heard about when we landed in Toronto last month ... I read one report that stated that they now have a vaccine for it and that it's now being contained ... then I read earlier today that we're now looking at a possible pandemic ... HA, the military will do what they're ordered to do ... they can set up as many field medical centres as need be but, at this point, I'm not sure it's necessary ... but if it does get to that point, I suspect the military would first offer their assistance, in which case they'd be working in the hospitals alongside their civilian counterparts ... I could also see the government requesting aid from the US if it came right down to it ... establishing military aid stations? ... it's always a possibility but there are other avenues the government can take before it gets to that ... edit: depending on the requirements they'd need to augment their medical ranks and I could see that coming from the US, again ... Cheers.

Dis,
We can't count on US help because the US will probably be hit at the same time as we are. The upside is that they probably have a much more robust military filed hospital reponse. I'm guessing here based on their constant military "excursions".
What we need to do, if and when the time comes, is cordinate a potential "Fotress America", which given our current "virtue signaling" government, will never happen. Witness the last 3 weeks.
This "fotress" only needs to be up for the time period of developing a vaccine. It will be an inconvenience, but certainly beats a run on body bags. Aside that, it also beats having to shutter the economy.
I hope it's just a waste of words.....but within days, the Middle East has now risen to "probable" on a epidemic.

I'm guessing here based on their constant military "excursions". That's a distinct probability, HA, yes ... it's very possible the US would pool their resources more so given the current political paradigm ... where I was coming from but didn't articulate it very well, is that while the Canadian military has medical expertise, they don't have the numbers for the size of the scenario you're asking about ... we have the doctors, nurses, and combat medics, sure, but not the numbers ... I'm thinking other than setting up border medical treatment centres, military medical pers would probably augment the existing civilian facilities, but only if it's required ... I'm not sure what the Tories would do differently ... they're traditionally more pro-military than the Grits or NDP but they'd be facing the same issue under the same circumstances ... The US is about to test a new vaccine on humans sometime in the very near future but it's also important to note that the recovery rate is already on the rise * ... The markets have already been hit hard by Coronovirus and tourism is down across the board ... we just came back from Cuba and there weren't a lot of people at our resort ... Italy's mortality rate * is already similar to China's ... I'm reading updates several times a day mainly because it's front-page news ... we're not out of the woods just yet, but more people seem to be recovering and we now know that it's not killing everyone ... Cheers.

I'm not sure what the Tories would do differently ... they're traditionally more pro-military than the Grits or NDP but they'd be facing the same issue under the same circumstances ... I don't think it's the issue of pro military, but more pro active. As the thread bears witness, I knew that Trump would shut out Chinese travellers within a week and there isn't the tiniest doubt in my mind that he will shut the borders north AND south if that is what it took to slow down the spread of the virus. My problem is that our beloved Dear Leaderless will vacillate and pontificate instead of acting in unison with Trump. THAT will mean that Canadians will be shut off from US access. I'm going to need a fence on my tv. Last week, CBC and CTV elites and "experts" were telling us that we don't have to worry, this week it's "better to stock up on food and medicine". If I hear ANOTHER CBC/CTV pile of cr@p that we are ready, my tv is at risk. We DO NOT HAVE the hospital isolation capacity to treat a pandemic. In fact, now they are selling us the "stay at home is best" because they are hiding the truth about our isolation capacity. Dis, we are getting lied too and manipulated. Prepare to bunker down. We are. . (BTW, last night I was talking with a doctor in the old country about their preparedness. His answer....STAY IN CANADA, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT COMING HERE. For about 30,000 residents, they have two isolation rooms. Capacity? 12 people. Rolled my eyes, but....how many do we have for the GTA? A few thousand? Maybe, maybe not. Day to day, he is expecting to hear about coronavirus in their system. I'm stressed out because you know how old my dad is and there is no way he is going to survive the infection...and I will be 7,000 km away.)

From the New York Times......Coronavirus in N.Y.: 2,773 People Are Under Quarantines in City
This means it's either as bad in the GTA or about to get as bad in the GTA.

A group of 47 Greeks travelling to Egypt and Israel got the virus there late February.
Egypt is reporting recently 15 and Israel 25.
Egypt can not lose it's tourist trade....so can someone calculate the astronomical odds of 47 people running across 15 infected in a population of 98 million? Actually, two weeks ago Egypt was reporting a hand full.
I'm going to trust the Israelis more...but not by that much.
Obvious conclusion is.....this 105,000 infected worldwide is a whole bunch of bullpucks. If it's gone viral in Egypt, well, between Iran and Egypt, it's going to be bookends of a clusterf....

Yesterday, i heard AGAIN on the CBC that just wash your hands, don't worry and mask don't work. Even the CDC doesn't recommend them. My wife and i used masks all our lives so while i ignored the chatter, quoting the CDC raised my ire. How is it possible that the CDC said that they are not effective or recommend? That dangerous lunacy.
So i went digging.....and what i found is not pretty.
The quote below is from Time and quoting the CDC. Read it carefully.....it's pure mind blowing garbage, misdirection, doublespeak....and barefaced lying that puts us at risk.
The bottom line is that they don't want the public, you and me, to wear mask because they want to keep them for themselves and caregivers. Utter bullpucks to claim they don't work for the general public, "NOT" recommended...but in the same sentence absolutely no question they work...for caregivers.
By spreading utter bullcrap lies, even people who already have masks will leave them behind on the claim that they don't work. After all, who wants to wear a mask when the spouting elites are telling us the are not recommeded and "not effective".
Folks....THIS is the reason I do not trust "elites" and politicians. EVER. They have no qualms deliberately lying to our face, put us at risk...but feel they can do that "for our own good". Self appointed Gods they are. Worse are the internet parrots who quote the lies without ever doing their own research and due diligence.
Read the doublespeak for yourselves....from a very recent Time article.
It gets worse. If they bold face lie about this to our faces, a dangerous lie, what else are they lying about? Or making decisions that put economic concerns above our health? Like closing the borders to hot spots?
Honestly, with all due respect, if you believe everything the "experts" and politicianns spout at us and believe it's the "truth" ....you are either naive or a fool.
Sorry for the bluntness....

Background info is that my wife was in the medical field and the material she was handling was dangerous enough, that they wore the canister type masks.
In my world, dust and finishing required that I enforced (with a vengeance) people wearing the right type of mask.
So I kinda know a few things about them.
So here is a conversation I had on another site....

Here is how you do it with "Fortress Taiwan".
Compared the above to the circus and lies from our politicians. And it's only the beginning of the misery....

Read the article and I'm not surprised that the more restrictive states are better equiped to handle tracing and shut downs. I've been in martial law enviroment three times in two countries, despise the very thought to the core.....but....here we are with a choice of economic and health hell, so I'm ok if this is the route we need to go through to slow or stop this.

I'll be honest, I'm not missing hockey all that much ... unless Mrs. Dis is working it's pretty much house arrest for the rest of the time ... the Ontario government just declared that all non-essential businesses will be closing ... that doesn't include the LCBO, the Beer Store, or Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) all of which will remain open ... go figure ...
