Instead if Trump and Trudeau gong show, Google how fast Taiwan reacted and how they did it.
We wouldn't be facing health and economic nightmare if both morons reacted properly.

So here is my major concern.....are our so called self proclaimed "elites" and deep state ready to shut down and create "Fortress America"? I have ZERO doubt that much maligned guy in the States would do it, but I have enormous concerns that our beloved Bearded One is going to waffle and procrastinate until we are knee deep. Ditto for the Mexico. And not to forget....I have no doubts that the twitty mobs will declare any early action as "racist" until their Twitty pals start disappearing from their likes. What are the people who we voted in and responsible for our safety prepared to do? January 25th. Sadly, my faith in the US moron was misplaced, but our Canadian moron didn't disappoint. And here we are....way more then "knee deep". (BTW, I dithered for weeks to open a thread because I didn't want to appear my usual cup empty "cranky" self. As soon as I heard city lockdowns, alarms exploded in my head.)

I've come down with bit of sore throat tonight. Imagine it is just routine. But with all this going on makes a fellow paranoid.

Today, I wanted to talk to the manager of my local medium size grocery store.
In 40 minutes of waiting.....
About 100 people entered/left.
*Social distancing was not bad, but people are forgetful.
*You can;t get people to social distance when passing each other. in the aisles.
*Several people wore masks, all but two was worn correctly.
*99% were great an patient, but some people are aholes. One was giving the lady a hard time and since I was doing nothing, I tried to explain to him it wasn't only about the count, it was also how many people lined up at the check out. He got snippy with her and ME....from a frail 80 something. The woman was doing a GREAT job of going in and checking the aisles and cashes before letting people in.
* People still touch/inspect product. One guy must of touched several packages of strawberries looking for that perfect one.
*Stocking guy had no mask or gloves.
I would rate the overall as a grade C-. We are FAR from "best practices" but not a failing grade either.

Today, I wanted to talk to the manager of my local medium size grocery store. .. *You can;t get people to social distance when passing each other. in the aisles. They could make every aisle a 1-way, and have a no-passing policy. It wouldn't even slow things down that much. But it also depends on how people act: I saw a guy standing texting and taking up a lot of real estate in a grocery store, when clearly he wasn't shopping. Well, part of that comes with how shops are stocked though. In a lot of stores you'll have 3 spots with orange juice: 2 with only the brand they want you to buy, and 1 with the whole lot, I often find myself grabbing something the first place I see it, and then switching back at the full display. A lot of similar practices need to be scaled back if they really don't want us to touch things we won't ultimately buy. 1 display with the works, well-marked prices without needing to take items to check details, etc.

Those places lived through SARS and learned a lot of tough lessons, so they were ready. Also, many Asian countries have a much more collective type ethic, which means social distancing orders are taken seriously, and personal liberty given up when needed, no questions asked: cellphone tracking in south Korea, for example.

Take a care of yourself, watch your symptoms. Good Luck! Unless something is clearly affecting your breathing, it's likely a common cold. But if breathing is labored, get checked out ASAP since Covid-19 can escalate very quickly.

You call when you arrive & park at a pick up point & they come to your car. I paid online as well so there is no contact. The delivery guy was wearing gloves but no mask. Not a bad experience And it kept me out of the store. My neighbor tried delivery with Sobey's & was satisfied. May try that next time.

Many of the places have placed 6 foot marking on floors to help with spacing and arrows indicating which way to go down an aisle, but some are just too dense or self absorbed to follow the rules.

That's the way to do it.....3 months ago. 5 million to 330 million and every governor is king....wont happen in the US. unless it happens there, it wont happen here. Simplest reason why is truck drivers. Short of unbelievably massive trailer and tractor swapping yards the size of small towns, drivers will transport goods and of course, the virus. I was dreaming of Fortress America, now it's more like sand castle in a hurricane.

My Covid 19 test came back negative. Doc says I had touch of regular flu.
But those 3 days waiting for results.....was most scared I have been in my life. I knew at my age, decent probability I would die from it. Not a good feeling.
I am taking extra caution what few times I do go out.

I'm going through the stats and not sure what to make of them.
Today, at 181, we had the highest death rate and it's 7 pm. If there is a "flattening of the curve", it's a lie because we never had any consistency in testing. You can't compare yesterday if yesterday has different test criteria or volume to today.
What I am seeing in the deaths is that there is no "better cure". I need to make my own graph of "serious" to "death" over a month period because that will show us if we are finding a better method to keep people alive.
I just sent an mail to world Worldometer

I was admiring how Greece is doing with the virus but at a cost....
The cops have blocked highways, you can not travel betwen towns and cities, you are questioned on the street and if you are more then a few blocks from your house with a dog, you're fined.
So if the children want to visit their parents in another city/town, even if they have seperate quarters or a second home, not going to happen.
Basically, it IS house arrest by another name.
I'm not so proud of them now. There is such a thing as over the top.

Just moving my post to the proper thread ... I was self-isolating about 7-8 days before we were 'confined to barracks', as it were ... I've been in the car four times since ... two times for takeout orders and two times for groceries ... the roads in my end of Kingston resemble what you'd find in a captivating novel about 'the plague' ... barren ... maybe the odd walker(s) and the bus every hour ... but at night is totally devoid of anyone ... was out to get takeout yesterday and a good friend of mine walks in as I'm ready to leave ... we'd normally shake hands and chat for a while, but we kept our distance and got caught up ... Kingston is known for several things but mostly for the 9 correctional facilities that used to be in the area ... as it is now there are 320+ cases of COVID-19 in the country's prisons, but none in Kingston * ... I won't comment on the rest of the province but Kingston, the city, is getting the message ... here are her COVID-19 stats * ... doesn't mean we can let our guards down ... 55 # of cases
| 51 # of cases resolved
| 0 # of deaths
| 14 # of healthcare workers positive | 1 # of cases in the last 7 days |

I am generally okay with the suspension of civil liberties in times of crisis, because lets face it people are dumb and can't always be trusted to do what is safe for themselves... or others. It's why we have traffic laws, after all. The real trick is in first knowing when to suspend those civil liberties... and more importantly when to lift the suspensions. A lot of governments/politicians/bureaucrats are quite happy maintaining great powers long after those powers are needed. See our post 9/11 world for some great examples. Its a cruel irony that in a free society the laws that are enacted to protect dumb people from themselves must be in turn be governed and limited by those very same dumb people.

Its a cruel irony that in a free society the laws that are enacted to protect dumb people from themselves must be in turn be governed and limited by those very same dumb people. There are a couple of things going on now that I'm concerned and in some cases frightened. Politicians are loving the licking from the media they are getting. Doug Ford was dead in the water, now he is getting praise and loves it. He sees a guarantee second term so any "decision" that gets him praise, he's right on it. Trudeau is watching the nightly news from his house and any human interest for gimme'money on the CBC becomes a giveaway the next day. Both see the big "V" in their eyes.... Help the needy and the vulnerable, great......what I don't even begin to understand is "business owners" who can't pay their rent for a month or two and complain that they will go bankrupt unless Trudeau gives them money. Sorry, as a 45 year businessman, if an established business can't pay a few months of rent, they are not a business, they are a hobby. So if they go bankrupt, too bad, that's the way it is. Maybe they should of thought of keeping a cash reserve instead of that lifestyle income. Besides, I seriously doubt that a lot of the business with their hands out are really "needy". When you create programs with giveaways, few have the integrity to say "i'm fine, I wont take free money". And yes, I absolutely agree, those mirror lickers governments/politicians/bureaucrats have gained great power, which given that power is part of what drives them, I don't see them giving it up that easily. Do NOT be surprised that within a year we will have ID cards we must all carry to give us "freedom" to move around. Of course this would be so much easier if we had an RFID tag implanted in us. Wouldn't that be wonderful? Or maybe we should talk about the "elites"? Really elite aren't they? So elite is their thinking that we are right in the middle of a great epidemic NONE of them had the "elite" thinking to take action. Lots of verbal salads and lots of finger wagging, but not really much action. Although they do look "smart" on the nightly news. Just ask them...... So yes....this virus is lethal...and has shown how lethally stupid those who think themselves as "leaders" are and will be going forward.
