If you want to catch a last glimpse of Guhle in a Rocket uniform before he heads off to the bubble in Regina, then tune into the game against the Moose tonight on RDS at 7:00pm ET.
Both Guhle and Fairbrother have looked good. I expect they should head into their junior camps with lots of confidence. Interestingly, both will be sporting the “C” on their teams (albeit Gianni will be co-captain with Fonstad).

Off to Sasky he goes. Off with the red, and on with his PA green for a while.

Josh Brook, still a prospect I’m keen on, had a goal, assist and named first star of the game. Salut! 👏

I thought he had a good game tonight after sitting two to let Guhle and Fairbrother get their last games in. He needs to activate and engage at both ends of the ice. Much better game than a few earlier this year.

A strong team win as the Rocket won 2-1 in their final game against the Moose on their four game set. They now have a week off before heading on the road for the first time this weird season. Vejdemo and Poehling with the goals...both very nice too. Lindgren with the win.

Laval had one other of its AHL contracted forwards leave recently too, but in Vigneault’s case it was to pursue hockey in Europe. By my count, this leaves the Rocket with 30 players including both Mysak and LeGuerrier who would return to the OHL if that league ever starts up. That is a bit more manageable as the guys need to play and some guys like Liam Hawel have not played a game yet.
Lynch was used at centre, so this also opens up a spot for one of the younger guys to get more reps at centre.

Laval was off for 9 days, and then laid their first stinker of the season on Monday against the weak Belleville Sens, losing 3-0. They bounced back tonight with a 3-1 victory behind goals from Vejdemo, Mysak (his first AHL goal) and Belzile. Primeau gets the win. Laval heavily outshot and outplayed the Sens, so a well deserved two points. 48-17 in shots. 10 games and only two opponents. Thank goodness TO and very tough Stockton will be up next and soon.

The Rocket faced the Marlies for the first time, but came up a tad short 4-3. Goals by Blandisi, Ylonen and Brook. The trio also had assists, for a two point night. Primeau in net for the loss. The Marlies top line of Galchenyuk, Petan and Barabanov were in on three of their goals. The Rocket’s defence is down another as Gustav Olofsson has headed back to Sweden for the birth of their child. He will be away for a while as he will also have to quarantine again when he rejoins the team. The Rocket get a chance for revenge against the Marlies on Sunday.

The Rocket prevail 5-4 in a shootout over the Marlies. The Marlies scored two late with the goalie pulled to send it to extra time. Veilleux with two goals, while Mysak and Poehling scored the others. Belzile had the shootout winner and McNiven got the win.

It is interesting that Mysak seems to be playing centre. I know he played centre for his national team, but the videos I watched before and after the draft made me think he probably projects as a winger.
NW, what is your impression of Fleury thus far this season? I was listening to Nilan on Habs Lunch today and he really likes Fleury. I have always been high on him too and frankly I worry about a scenario where Bergevin dutifully (foolishly) protects three veteran d-men on the back nine of their careers in the expansion draft and loses Fleury.

Yeah, they have had Mysak playing fourth line centre in his Rocket games. He is a pretty responsible player on the defensive side as he does not cheat like a lot of young centres. He likely does project on the wing at the NHL level, but I like that they are given him the tougher assignment as a 18 year old playing against men. As for Fleury, he is playing well. He had two nice assists yesterday and played solid defensively. He has been one of Laval’s best defensemen for sure. They guy who I think has been the best is Finn Otto Leskinen. His skating and confidence in both ends is really high right now. I could see both getting a look this year if Berg does not go outside to replace Chiarot during his recovery from surgery.

The Rocket pulled out a pretty gutsy 3-2 win against the Baby Sens yesterday. It was their fifth game in 8 nights against a rested Belleville team, and it showed at times. A few more penalties as a result forced some extra PK time, but the guys found ways to get it done. Primeau was very solid in net and made some key saves. Poehling had another great game, and had one heckuva shot on the PP GWG. Weal and Teasdale had the other two goals.
The boys head off on a long road trip now with four games each against Stockton (in Calgary) and Manitoba.

Big night for Poehling in last night’s 4-3 OT win in Calgary against the red hot Stockton Heat, winners of their last seven in a row. Poehling had a three point night, with the OT GWG and two assists. That is 6 points in his last three games, three straight games with a goal, and B2B game winning goals. He is skating well, doing well on faceoffs, and playing the right way at both ends of the rink. Nice to see him starting to leave a mark. He just turned 22, so he still has time for sure. That NHL debut set some crazy unachievable expectations for him.

I remember thinking whether he'll turn out like Lars Eller, or Ryan Kessler ... then I saw him in Belleville and, except for one end-to-end rush, where he lost the puck at the blue line, I hardly noticed him at all ... good timing to start playing well, because he was taking some heat recently ... glad they haven't given up on him ... Cheers.

Thanks for the updates on Poehling and Fleury, NW. I would like to see Poehling get a chance if he keeps it up. Right now the Habs fourth line is basically a total non-factor 5v5.
Time will say what Bergevin does about the expansion draft, but I think it would be a tough blow (and a strategically questionable decision) to lose Fleury. If Bergevin does not have the stones (and the cold heart) to expose Weber, then he should simply expose both Chiarot and Edmundson. I honestly do not think losing one of them would be the end of the world and Ronnie Francis may not want three years of Edmundson at $3.5 million.

I honestly do not think losing one of them would be the end of the world and Ronnie Francis may not want three years of Edmundson at $3.5 million. Petry has to be protected because of the NMC and because you'd be crazy not to protect him. If you choose to go with 3D and 7F, then you're looking choosing 2 of Weber, Ben-Hur, Edmundson, Fleury, Mete, Kulak and any of the Laval D (Otto Leskinen is the only one to consider. My guess is Berg will protect Weber because Berg. After that, my preference would be one of the kids. If someone takes Chiarot or Edmundson off your hands, so what? That's the guy you lose and no one else. With NOrlinder, Harris, Struble, and the rest of the kids available in the next few years, you're basically gaining CAP space. Frankly, if you had any gonads at all, you'd leave Weber unprotected because no one is taking that headache off your hands and protect someone you can use. Do we have 7 forwards we need to protect? Gallagher, Anderson, Drouin, Kotkaniemi, Toffoli. The others are question marks or not a loss if claimed. Byron, Lehkonen, Evans. Or, given the roster construction, you could go with Petry, Chiarot, Edmundson, Fleury, Gally, Anderson, Drouini and KK, leaving Toffoli open (and he'd like be claimed), but you'd have everyone else. If Berg re-signs Danault, then you have to go with the 10 player option, protect Danault and one other forward. I'm assuming Tatar and Armia are no longer in the picture.

The Rocket beat the Heat for the second straight game yesterday afternoon, 4-3. The trend of giving up leads late in the third continued, but they actually held on and won it in regulation. The last two wins against Stockton have helped the Rocket overtake the Heat for first place in the division. There is no rest for the wicked, as the two go head to head again this afternoon.
Here is a great shot from Ylönen, in what ended up being the game winner. The other goals were from RHP, Teasdale and Blandisi. McNiven got the win in net.

The Rocket make it three in a row against the Heat today, with a 4-1 win. The last two goals were both empty netters. Primeau with the win. Blandisi and Teasdale with two goals each, one each with a goalie and one each without. With the win, the Rocket move 6 points up on Stockton for first place in the division.
Here is Teaser’s GWG. It starts with a nice turnover by Poehling in the neutral zone and a nice pass from Blandisi to Teasdale.

It didn't look like Teasdale had much space to get that puck up and in. Nice finish.
In what little I've seen of him in junior, he was a forechecking beast. Hopefully he can improve his footspeed. I don't think anyone would complain if Teasdale became a NHL success story, even if it's just in a support role.

You have to be really impressed with what the Rocket just accomplished in Calgary. They swept all four games and dominated them against Stockton, a team that was the hottest team in the AHL and a high octane offence up to that point. They now sit 8 points up atop the Canadian Division heading into four games in Winnipeg against the Moose.
Last night it was the Flying Finns on full display. Ylönen has 2g 1a and Leskinen had 1g 1a, with Lucchini getting the other goal and Primeau notching another win. Final score was 4-2 with a late double minor making things interesting against a 6 on 4.
If you want a quick scouting report on Ylönen, he is fast, good with the puck, and has a heckuva shot.

Maybe the OT guys on the Habs should watch how the Rocket run a 3 on 3 in OT
Also, The Rocket red jersey would be a great retro jersey for the Habs instead of the one they use.
