Beck did get a major and game for this hit. Will have to watch and see if he gets any supplementary discipline for it too as that would keep him out of critical playoff games.

Frederik Dichow has started the first two games for Denmark at the Men’s Worlds. In his first match, he gave up one goal on 17 shots as Denmark won 4-1 over Hungary. Yesterday in a second game in two days, he gave up 3 goals on 26 shots but still lead Denmark to a 4-3 OT win over France. He is now 2-0 in the tournament.

Initial thoughts after seeing Farrell and Hutson in the IIHF World's. Farrell needs more work, IMO. I've noticed him shying away from taking a hit to make a play when he and an opponent go for a loose puck along the boards. I can understand it to a degree because he's not a big guy, would lose the board battle anyway and possibly be in a worse position, but i kept thinking he needs to initiate a bit stronger than he did or he won't get past the AHL. He accelerated nicely to create a 2 on 1 (goalie made the save), but other than that wasn't noticeable.
Hutson was noticeable, in both good and bad ways. Offensively, he is adapting and while what he did in the NCAA didn't seem to work at the World's (defenders were a bit quicker than the NCAA guys Hutson contended with) as he couldn't free himself from checkers. I think the problem there is that he just hadn't played with enough guys long enough. He had really good chemistry with Coronato, but the other players didn''t seem to connect with Hutson's intentions and go to places where they would have space. Defensivel, the good part is that he does a fairly good job of recovering pucks and moving them before forecheckers can get on him and cause cycle issues. The bad part is that when they do, they spend a fair bit of time in the US zone. He's going to have to reduce even further, the number of times he loses the puck on retrievals. He is chuckingly slippery at getting checked. Some more weight and strength, especially in the legs, will help there. Calling Adam Nicolas.
Size wise, I had a hard time telling the difference between Hutson and Scott Perunovich, a Blues player who is highly thought of. Perunovich is 5' 10", 175 lbs. I wouldn't be surprise is Hutson is 5' 10". I doubt he's near 175 pounds yet. but in uniform, he doesn't look any different than Perunovich. Both are really good skaters.
A guy on the US team I did like is Ronnie Attard, a 6'3" 208 lb RHD who is a Flyer player. He's had 17 games with them over the last 2 seasons after 3 years at Western MIchigan University. Not flashy at all, but hard to get past and a satisfactory transition game. He's 24 and I doubt Flyers trade him. Liked his game.

Farrell definitely has a good shot. He showed that on the 2 on 1 I mentioned above. I think the goalie got a piece of it and then it hit the bar.

Petes win a barn burner 6-5 last night. Mailloux with an assist. Beck with a goal and assist, +3 and 61% in faceoffs in the win.

He looked more confident there than he did in the first game of the tournament, which is not surprising. He is adjusting to the speed and nature of the game. On that goal, nice move to elude the first forechecker, than he gets stick checked a little bit by the defender when trying to deke him, but still follows the puck as it goes through and he wriggles around the D-man and then (most impressively), he has the patience to wait until the goalie is forced to change his positioning and opening up holes before trying to tip the puck toward the goal. That wasn't an accident or luck that the puck went where it did. Hutson planned it.
He also started out the tournament on the 3rd pair. Getting over 16 minutes a game means he may have moved up, but I'm not sure on that. What I key on most when his games are televised, is how he deals with forecheckers and his work in front of the net. He avoids contact a lot when retrieving pucks and I want to see him continue that against better skaters with higher hockey IQ's. He's never going to win battle on the boards or in front of the net, but like Quinn Hughes, he can limit this situations and be a decent defender. His offensive game needs no discussion.

I watched that game... he was all over the place... I assume you mean "all over the place" in a good way? I'd want to pay a bit more attention to it but he often doesn't look like he's working hard or moving quickly and then he accelerates and he's opened up space from his checker. Maybe it's because his skating style is smooth, which understates speed.

Is Slakovsky still injured? I guess it would be hard to determine now.
The reason I ask is that I watched a bit of Slovakia vs. Kazakhstan today. Nemec, who was picked 2nd overall, was playing . He also saw some time with Devils AHL team.
It would be nice to see him skating again and competing in a meaningful tournament.

Mailloux with an ENG and assist (see video) in a must win 4-1 victory for London yesterday. Peterborough still leads that series 3-2. Beck did get a major for a slew foot.
Davidson and Seattle finished off Winnipeg in five games last night to win the WHL championship and book their spot in the Memorial Cup in Kamloops. One of Beck or Mailloux will be there too, so fans will have two Habs prospects to cheer on throughout the event.

He was asked about playing in the Worlds earlier and mentioned he has not played in months so will need more time to get back on the ice and get in game shape.

Davidson and Seattle finished off Winnipeg in five games last night to win the WHL championship and book their spot in the Memorial Cup in Kamloops. One of Beck or Mailloux will be there too, so fans will have two Habs prospects to cheer on throughout the event. Beck seems to play on the edge, which I like. He hasn't done anything really dangerous (that earlier major and game misconduct was on a hit that happens often enough in the NHL without even a penalty). Slew foots can happen from working hard to contain someone. BTW, Beck had Mailloux going in various directions on one play in the London corner. Mailloux was having trouble with that, but a lot of guys would. I was surprised to see that Jared Davidson was the leading scorer on Seattle. He didn't have huge totals 38-44-82 in 60 games, but solid. He plateaued from the previosu year, but given how much stronger and more balanced his team was, it makes sense he wouldn't be used as much in as many offensive situations. For those guys in the East who don't get much data on the Left Coast, here is some info on some of the Seattle players (in no particular order): Jared Davidson - our guy, centre. Drafted as a 19 year old, Round 5 2022 Lucas Ciona - Winger Round 6 Calgary, 2021 Kevin Korchinski - best prospect on the team, D, 7th overall 2022 for Chicago. The elite D a winning team needs. Reid Schaefer, LW, #32 Overall, 2022, Oilers pick Brad Lambert - Centre, 30th overall 2022, Winnipeg Dylan Guenther - RW, 9th overall 2021 Arizona. Played with Guhle in Mem Cup last year, but was injured before tourney and explains why Guhle's team didn't win. Luke Prokop - D - 73 overall in 2020, Nashville Nolan Allan - D - 32 Overall 2021, Chicago Colton Dach - C - 62 overall 2021 Chicago, Kirby's bro and a member of Team Canada until injured and replaced by Owen Beck. Five first round picks on the team, even though 3 were very late in the first. That is a lot of drafted players for one juniour team. That and $5 gets you a latte of course, but this team lost only 3 games en route to the Mem Cup. That's good. Couple of other factoids about Seattle (one of which I need NWT's help on). Their Goalie is Thomas Milic who had a .933 save % through the season and a .928 in the playoffs. He hasn't been drafted because he's considered too small at 6'. 179 lbs. He just stops pucks --- at the juniour level anyway. Tij Iginla - 16 years old, not eligible for the draft until 2024. Six feet, 180 lbs (at 16). Now I know nothing about Tij, but c'mon, how many hockey playing Iginla's can there be? He has to be Jarome's son, or nephew or some other close relative. The thing I find puzzling is that he was born in Lake Country, BC and for those out east who are geographically challenged, Lake Country used to be called Winfield not so long ago and is a bedroom community of Kelowna. Did Jarome have some sort of connection with Kelowna? Summer vacation home? Here's where NWT comes in.... .

Tij is Jarome’s son. The Iginla’s must have had a summer place on the Valley. The fun factoid is Jarome is a minority owner of the Kamloops Blazers, this year’s Memorial Cup host. He gets to cheer for his son and also for “his” team (he also played juniors for Kamloops). He is also a two time Memorial Cup champion (those early 90s Blazers teams were strong).

Beck suspended for rest of OHL Final Wow. On the one hand you have George Parros and (anything goes) Colon Campbell and on the other hand you have the OHL Spanish Inquisitor. Seriously? A puck battle, he loses his balance, and slew foots the guy (no argument there). That's a 2 minute penalty all day long, into the next century. Period. Nothing else. Not a major, and certainly not a suspension. Hmmmmm...kinda makes you wonder what kind of game management is going on there. That is more than just 'a bit much'. The OHL, however, has a history of harshness. Sometimes it's correct and serves to discourage the behaviour and other times it's confusing. I'm certainly getting crankier as time goes on (with cause, I'll add) as I see more and more silly decisions. Especially in comparison to other decisions.
