I can't believe the difference in reffing standards between the regular season and the playoffs. The Panthers would be shorthanded half the game if regular season standards were in place. For not wanting to influence games the NHL has created a situation where games are being decided because the officiating is not calling stuff they should. I have seen numerous, and I mean numerous, cases of the Panther forecheckers getting control of the puck by sweeping their opponents' skates out from under them while they're up against the boards. That's a tripping penalty all day long. but it's being ignored in the playoffs and Florida is taking advantage of it.

That Panther goal shouldn’t count as well because Bennett hooks a Canes player in the elbow, keeping him from clearing the zone. That’s another example of a non call affecting the game or at least would have if not for the offside.

Canes 1-0 after one period. They dominate the shot clock 20-8.
Both teams have goals called back for offside.

I don’t recall Florida ever going down by 3. Lots of 2-0 deficits and then they always scored.

Yay! I am rooting for Florida... in part because I don't want to see KK do well, in part because I figure if Florida goes deep or even wins it all, they will run into more cap issues and maybe stumble.. Which might help with our 2025 pick. I'm the opposite. I watch to see KK play. He has become an outstanding passer. I'm also wondering if Kotkaniemi will become the third former Hab third-line player to score a Cup winning goal (Eller, Lehkonen) Bergevin was right, some players get you to the playoffs, some get you through the playoffs.

FLA hasn't done much in the 3 but they've had two 2 on 1 breaks that they messed up.

That was a “we’d like Florida in the finals penalty call”. Really soft call. Far less worse than the Bennett hook I mentioned earlier.
Those guys are getting ’game management’ calls consistently. Must be nice.

I dont see one side getting favored over the other. Both teams had 3 PPs.
In game one Carolina scored both their goals on the PP & hit a crossbar in OT on another power play.
Neither side has much to complain about.

Canes appear to be finally missing Svechnikov's offense....and to some degree--how much would Pacioretty have added? 3 goals in the 5 games he played before the second Achilles tear.

Neither side has much to complain about. I haven't watched much of either series, but in the bits I have watched, what I will say is that you can favour a team by omission. They might have the same number of PP opportunities, but if one team deserved twice as many but the penalties weren't called, that's affecting the game. I have called for several penalties on the Panthers (especially interference ones (eg, see the Gudas tying up of the Leaf's stick in the previous series) but which were ignored. Someone has to solve Bobrovsky. He's anticipating extremely well, so I'd start keeping the game really simple. Two on zero, just go in and shoot. Try to block his view, and always roof the puck. Canes like to pass a lot so be selfish and shoot, but roof it. KK made that great pass while on his knees and the winger shot it right into Bobrovsky's pad. Everything above that was wide open.

Something I have rarely seem - a full stadium for a Panthers game.

The Canes are desperate tonight. They always skate with fury and finish their checks, but it looks like Brind'Amour asked for another gear. They are trying to show the Panthers that after the whistle nastiness is something they can put on the menu, which is not really in Carolina's traditional wheelhouse because they do not really have any major agitators let alone fighters in their lineup.
I think it is all going to come down to whether Carolina's shooters can solve Bobrovsky because he is a vet in one of those otherworldly zones right now, so a bunch of scrums in his crease is unlikely to faze him much.

Aho could have had a hat trick tonight.
Bobrovsky is playing at his Vezina level seasons.

The last 3 calls against the Canes were the definition of chintzy. Tkachuk only had one hand on his stick. C'mon.

Normally sitting back , doing absolutely nothing on offense and hoping your goalie stops everything is not a winning strategy. But....

Benn showing shockingly bad judgement, especially as a veteran and team captain. With his team down 1-0 very early he reacts by mugging Mark Stone and crossing checking him in the head. It leads to a 5 minute PP and an ejection and a goal.
Carrier follows up with a softy. It's now 3-0 and Oettinger is out of the game.

Howden collides with Hintz who falls and takes Dadonov out at the knees. Dadonov won't be back and the Stars are now down 2 forwards.
Edit: Pieterangelo lands a point shot - now 4-0 halfway through the 2nd period,
Edit: Domi starts crap with Hague and gets himself a misconduct.
The funny part of that exchange was watching Hague taunting Domi after it was over. The ref would have none of it. He got Hague's attention and then jerked his thumb in the direction of the penalty box.
The fans started to litter the ice so they pushed back the last 10 seconds of so. They will be played after the intermission.

Can't see Slavin coming back from that Bennett hit.
Out with his eyes open.
Now 2-0 Florida on the PP.

Just realized that Florida with Ekblad Reinhart and Bennett have the number 1, 2 and 4 guys from the 2014 1st round in their lineup.
Number 3 guy was Draisaitl.

bobrovskied again. I wonder how they'll fare against Vegas, who are a very fast team. And someone needs to take Bennett out.

That was scary to watch him struggle. I dont remember Bennett being such a hitter when he was in Calgary. It's amazing what PED's can do. I'm not suggesting anything, but his career has strangely turned around since moving to Florida, the land of anything goes.

Out of curiousity, since I'm not watching the games, after the Canes tied it 3-3 and Staal took that tripping penalty....how serious was it?

Out of curiousity, since I'm not watching the games, after the Canes tied it 3-3 and Staal took that tripping penalty....how serious was it? Can't find a highlight of it....but considering "game management" and what was at stake for Carolina...I've seen much worse let go. 200 feet from his own net. An inadvertent trip at best, IMO. Could change my mind upon seeing it again, I suppose.
