Out of curiousity, since I'm not watching the games, after the Canes tied it 3-3 and Staal took that tripping penalty....how serious was it? To me it looked like Staal was sweeping his stick in an effort to reach the puck and tripped the D man.

Very out of town, but still with a Hab connection. Monty and Barron are world champions after a 5-2 win over Germany earlier today. Monty was also named one of Canada’s top three players. Hutson, Farrell and Luke Tuch come home empty handed after winning their first 8 games then losing their last two, both in OT.

Dallas getting waxed after twenty minutes. DeBoer, by all accounts, is a good coach. But dear God that pair of Suter-Hanley is trash. Hanley is an AHLer and Suter is a 38 year old who has seemingly fallen off the cliff.

Just a coincidence I'm sure but with Benn suspended the Stars win both those games. He comes back & they get smoked.😀

Bergevin was right, some players get you to the playoffs, some get you through the playoffs. Wasn't that Gainey, though ?

Chuckle. Babcock will probably improve them for a year, maybe 2 and then it will all start to fall apart. He's past his best before date. Well past.

So, let’s recap Bettman’s logic
A bully coach - no problem with
A bully player - indefinite suspension
A coach / GM that covered up sex abuse - ok with
A player who admitted taking pictures of consensual sex and pled guilty without any cover-up - indefinite suspension
Exec who spends time in prison for vehicular homicide - ok with

Betman (I prefer one 't') must be American because he doesn't understand Canadians. At least some of the population of the Phoenix area has to be Snowbirds. We know several people who spend several months in Arizona, but come back to Canada to enjoy Universal health Care, etc. (yeah, it annoys me too). I wouldn't call these people cheap, but let's say economy plays a role in their lifestyle decisions. They might have a lot of money, but would rather not spend it. These are not the type of people who would spend $300 or whatever for a ticket to an NHL game, no matter where it is. The exchange rate exacerbates that, so this lack of demand has to be factored into the population equation. Sure there are a lot of people living in the Phoenix metropolitan area, but they're not hockey fans, or they're economical hockey fans. I'm a big hockey fan. but I've yet to see a half dozen NHL games live. It's not convenient for me and I have things I'd rather spend my money on, while I can watch the game for free on tv (or at least a small fraction of my total tv costs). I could be one of those Phoenix Canadians (except for the heat). Betman is trying to squeeze that square peg into that round hole. Dolt.

What a sham, huh? Another lesson about being late to the party. None of the owners care about the Stanley Cup, or the state of hockey. It's all about the value of the franchise. If enough fans wanted to send a message and they just stayed home and didn't buy anything, those franchise values would crash because there aren't enough businesses willing to pony up money to compensate for empty seats. Media companies won't cover anything that doesn't generate ad revenue and who's going to advertise for something no on is watching? We need a fans' guild (Guild because so many people hate the term 'union'), to set some ground rules for the owners. Proper officiating and no gaming of anything, removal of the entire upper executive (they don't do anything anyway, so things will still operate) and a few other requirements I'm sure we can come up with. That would stun the owners and remind them of where their asset value actually comes from. See how easy that was?

Worried about Eichel's neck....yikes. Clean hit....but Florida wasn't too interested in hockey after 4-0. 2011 Bruins-style. Hope the third doesn't get uglier. At least Tkachuk's off for half of it.

Eichel's back to start the third....good news.
EDIT: Martinez careless by his own net with a giveaway...then it goes off his leg and in. 4-1.
EDIT: Eichel strong play along the boards...then centres it to an open Marchessault, who must be near the top of the Smythe voting now.
5-1.

Man o man did Barbashev hammer Gudas That jerk Gudas has been Headhunting the entire playoffs. He looks for opportunities where the puck carrier just receives a pass so he’s as vulnerable as possible. Barbashev anticipated it and leaned into him so Gudas took most of the impact. I hope he’s out for the playoffs. Couldn’t happen to a better guy. It seemed half the Panther team was doing the same thing. Wouldn’t put it past Maurice for it to have been the game plan. Maurice was livid most of the game. Seeing your one chance at a Cup circling the drain will do that to you.

I've had the volume up for stretches during this Final. I'd say the Maclean, Cuthbert, Simpson broadcast favors Florida...and praises Vegas only when obvious to do so.
I think they were dumbfounded that Bobrovsky got chased.
Their intended outcome/narrative isn't panning out.....re-calculating...re-calculating....

"Do a U turn when safe to do so. Do a U Turn".
Sometimes people look for complicated reasons when Occam's Razor is what they should be thinking. Yeah, Tkachuk made some great plays during the run to the finals and Montour was over the top, and Bennett played inspiring hockey, etc. etc.
If one took a step back there are 2 reasons Florida got as far as they did.
2) they got away with a hell of a lot. No team took more advantage of the "playoffs are called differently" than the Panthers. They were shorthanded more than anyone, but that's a reflection of how far on the edge they played, for how long. They should have been penalized 3 times more than they were, but got away with so much. Yesterday, the Knights shot the puck into the Panther zone along the boards at the face off circle. A dman went to get it, and a Vegas forward rushed in to forecheck. Another Panther very obviously checked the Vegas player into the boards, to prevent him from pressuring the dman. The Knight was a good stride away from the dman, was vigorously taken out of the play and absolutely nothing happened. It wasn't just a brushing. the Panther lined up the forechecker, hammered him into the boards and the refs let it go. That's the kind of crap they have been getting away with.
And the #1 reason:
1) Goaltending. First Lyon and then Bobrovsky. The last 2 games, they have both lost something and Florida has gotten hammmered. We have gone from Pick #12 or so to pick #31 because of effing goaltending at the wrong time. Simple as that.
Don't get too wrapped up, Panel. Florida is done like dinner.

Speaking of Occam's Razor....
Could the Canadian broadcasters' Florida bias stem from their Toronto bias?
a. Almost 2 decades ago, Maurice coached the Leafs (albeit 2 failed seasons)...and/or... b. They want to be able to say, "At least the Leafs lost to the eventual Cup champs."
