Perhaps the sale of the Sens will provide a bit of very short-term job security for Dorion and DJ Smith. But man, this is year six of Dorion's rebuild and they have never even managed to put together a competitive season (bottom ten every season).
Losing is contagious and one really has to wonder if, season after season, Dorion created an environment where the young core never learned the necessary lessons about accountability and mental fortitude.

Not a dry-eyed viewer watching the Leafs-Pens pre-game.
Lots of former Leafs' greats on the ice for Hall of Fame weekend.
Borje Salming--suffering visibly from ALS--flanked by Mats Sundin and Darryl Sittler, who was overcome with emotion.
Huge ovation for #21.

Horvat has his 13th tonight, still playing in his 14th game. He is a UFA at the end of the year and the Canucks haven't been able to reach an agreement with him. I'd love for us to take a shot at him in July. Obviously he hasn't scored at this pace historically but he's a solid 30 goal man, and brings great leadership. This is the kind of guy you go to war with, not an Elias Pettersson for example. He would be a great leader for our young guys and we'll need another top center if Dach stays at right wing and Monahan gets dealt

Chabot get hit in the numbers right into the boards by Konecky and the refs call nothing and in the highlight i saw the Hens do nothing... Chabot out a week with a concussion. The refs are brutal

Who knows with the Department of Player Safety. I suppose their rationale is that Chabot had turned and knew the forechecker was there.

I'm really tired of the DPS & their victim blaming. An unsuspecting player takes a cheap hit from behind therefore it's his fault.
Konecny must think he's thd 2nd coming of Ken Linseman.

What is the deal with Leafs fans fawning all over Jordie Benn? And Marner declaring "would you want to fight him."
Sure, Benn will stand firm in a scrum and take/give gloves to the face. And, yes, he always tries to keep the crease clear. But he is not a particularly big or scary dude. He is not known as a major hitter and he is certainly not distinguished as a fighter.
I have a hunch the 'Jordie Benn spring' will be a short one. I recall he played well for twenty games when he first came over to Montreal and then he got walked multiple times in the playoff series against the Rangers. And after that, he was pretty much bad.

Anyone the Laffs sign is the second coming... That shows you how little the Leafs know about toughness. Benn is 35, on his 6th NHL team, has played about 600 games and has a grand total of 234 penalty minutes. The high point if you can call it that was 39 minutes in 2019. I guess that's because every one is terrified of him. They are afraid that the latest neck injury to Muzzin means the end of his career. Because Dubas is so brilliant at managing the cap , the best replacement he can get is an over the hill journeyman so the propaganda machine hypes him up. It's like watching state TV in Russia. And what would Marner & company know about fighting.

Agree. A contender wouldn't have to over-pump Benn's tires.
Leafs are a true #2 d-man and #1 goalie away from legit contention. They have the horses up front...not sure about the "willingness to compete" at all times...but the talent is there. As it stands now, they'd need one of their goalies to do a Halak 2010 in the playoffs.
Majority of cap tied up in too few players, no doubt.

A real contender wouldn't even sign Jordi Benn.

Devils beat Toronto in OT. 11th straight win. Hughes intercepts a pass from Tavares to set up the winner
Despite their up front talent Toronto is now 1-4 in OT.

Avs get outshot 48 - 15 but beat the Canes in OT. Lehkonen wires in the winner from his off wing.

I wonder just how dangerous Carolina’s shots are. They do really well in possession and often outshoot their opponents by a wide margin but they always have trouble scoring.

This is true and probably explains why they have not quite met expectations in the playoffs.
And subtracting 45 goals between Trochek and Niederreiter did not help matters either.

And Kotkaniemi's abysmal performance isn't helping. He has just 1 goal and 3 points in 17 games. I thought with Trochek gone he would step up.
Ugly numbers.

Austin Watson with a cheap crosscheck into Hischier's lower-side ribs. Uncalled, of course.
IMO a vicious, intentional crosscheck like that is "attempt to injure". It has zero to do with the game.
Wouldn't be surprised if Watson pays before the game is over.

I'm watching the game too & I saw that. No penalty of course.
Yet earlier in the game a Jersey D man gave Motte a shove on the seat of pants & got called.
The Devils are not giving the Sens any time or space. Three minutes into the 2nd period and it's now 3-0 NJ.

Game management in play now. Watson plows Siegenthaler into the boards after the puck is gone - no call. Now the Devils are on the PK.
Devils score a last minute shortie after Stutzle falls at the blue line. 4-1 after 2.
Devils with an empty better to make it 5-1 for their 12th win in a row I believe.

They've tuned out Smith... they need D but with the talent they have up front they should be doing better
Maybe we could send them a Savard or edmunson for a pick or prospect

They've tuned out Smith... they need D but with the talent they have up front they should be doing better Dis you see the pair dressed as Centurions? Time to grow up a bit. Smith looking like a guy who knows his days are numbered. And how does Brassard merit the 3rd star in a lopsided loss, Sharks in on Monday. Let the Karlsson talk heat up!
