Good depth for 3R. QMJHL defensive defender of the year in 2022. Played mainly in the ECHL last year with another organization.

A decent sized 24 year old RW who played mainly in Maine in the ECHL last season and put up close to a point per game there. Good add for 3R (assuming).

They have to fill out rosters for Laval and 3R and hopefully field competitive and deep clubs in the farm system. These are moves with those goals in mind. I don’t expect these guys to ever see the big club as there are now enough drafted young prospects in Laval that are homegrown talent and should be the guys in line for injury call ups. It will be quite the influx of drafted young talent incoming into the AHL this season, which is nice for a change rather than loading up with AHL vets/filler. |

Bourque became the Rocket captain when it was clear the Habs would not be sending Belzile back for the end of the season and playoffs. Given how young the team will be, having another known veteran on the team is a good thing.

The Habs couldn't send Belzile back without him going through waivers because he had been with the big team too long. I think the limit is around a month and then a veteran player has to go through waivers. So they couldn't do what they did Ylonen and send him back if even just a paper transaction and recall him right away. Same goes for Pitlick.
A team like Ottawa, whose farm team was in direct competition with the Rocket for a playoff spot, could claim him and keep him on their roster just to hurt Laval and boost their own chances.

Condotta (2 years) and Beaudin (1 year) locked up on two way deals. Definitely two players who should play most, if not all, of the year in Laval. The Rocket lineup and depth is starting to get firmed up for sure. Might see a few more adds on AHL deals if anything, especially depending on who they invite to training camp.
Only one RFA left to sign: Ylönen.

The Rocket finish off their mercifully short (2 games) preseason with a win today against Belleville. Roy with three assists, Myšák with a 1+1 game (Houle will still play him on the fourth line), and Mešár with a goal. They should get a few more bodies tomorrow as the Habs get their roster compliant, so it should be a pretty competitive lineup.

At last year’s camp, Houle made a comment about Myšák essentially implying that he was only a fourth line talent given the rest of the lineup. Myšák struggled to make a mark playing with plugs and had some injuries, so he failed to leave a bigger mark and move up in the lineup. This year he had a good camp, but the competition for top nine spots is pretty fierce with the new additions to the team. |

Mešár one of the odd men out at practice today. Hopefully it is just a temporary rotation, as the kid needs to play (and not just bottom six limited minutes with plugs).

Some decent young talent sitting out in tonight’s home and season opener. It will be interesting to see how Houle rotates them into the roster. A few guys like Myšák and Davidson had pretty good camps too (the latter scored two of three goals in one of the Rocket’s two preseason wins).
Things that make you go hmmmm (at least for now).
Oh yeah, tonight’s and tomorrow afternoon’s games are on free view on AHL tv if you have an account set up (no subscription needed this weekend). I think tonight might also be on RDS.

Still lots of young prospects to watch in the lineup, but I thought having a good training camp meant a bit more than apparently Houle does (I think my views on Houle’s handling of young guys is obvious enough 😉 I hope he changes my views this season though).

A numbers game it seems. Armia is questionable but that would be two slaps in the face. Gabriel Bourque and Condotta are questionable but do you really want the kids on the 4th line? Mysak, maybe and Davidson could probably play there.
It will be more than interesting to see Houle's lineup choices. He's got excuses now with the overloaded numbers, but if the kids aren't getting chances, I'd forget about his salary and replace him with someone more inclined to teach and develop.
