I imagine Hughes is not happy that the prospects like Tuch & Reinhart will not be seeing any playoff action after playing just a handful of games.
AHL teams are used to develop players for the NHL but I think that they should also be used to develop coaches. Another coach that paid his dues in the minors is Jared Bednar. He spent a lot of time in the ECHL and the AHL winning championships in both leagues.
Montreal should always be on the lookout for young coaching talent that can develop along with the group.

They add a 27 year old London, Ontario native who had stellar numbers in the Swiss NL to a two way deal. He will likely be the backup/tandem for Dobeš.

Hughes played really well over there, he's a real good add to Laval
According to an SN article... should change his name to Huge's... he's a big boy, maybe convert him to a forward or D man... lol

Never heard of this Canadian goalie playing in Switzerland, so I really have no idea. He will be 28 years old to start the season, though totally unlike other positions in ice hockey, with goalies there is actually a chance a guy that age could have finally figured it out.
As NW said, Dobes needs to be in a good tandem because despite the kid making a lot of progress in 2023-24, Laval cannot create a winning environment without two competent goalies.

Laval adds a former development camp invite and former teammate of Joshua Roy at Sherbrooke to the fold. He has an AHL/ECHL deal next season, and then a AHL deal for the second year of his contract. Put up decent numbers as an overager last year in the Q and brings decent two way play and size. AHL deals don’t count against the 50 NHL contract limit, so a perfect tool to round out your minor pro rosters.

An unknown before this news for sure. He played with Lausanne, who lost in the NL championship finals to Rohrer’s team Zurich Lions and played very well in the regular season and playoffs. While the Hab scouts/brass were keeping an eye on Rohrer and Reinbacher in the Swiss NL, I am sure they saw a bit of this big dude.

One less forward who will be with the team next season. I was more than a tad surprised that he never got a call up with the big club all season given how many spots opened up due to injuries. Oh well, good luck in the NL.

Oh well, good luck in the NL. Same. I thought he had a good season with Laval and was better than some of the other guys we had on the big club this past year. Oh well, one more year of cap clearing contracts to go.

The five Rocket players who have already confirmed moves to Europe for next season. With a bunch of new guys coming in (Beck, Mešár, Hutson?, Xhekaj, Tuch, Engström, goalie Hughes etc.), the team needed to make room anyway. I expect more of the fringe guys won’t be back either.
Cheerio to:
Filip Cederqvist Nolan Yaremko Lias Andersson Strauss Mann Olivier Galipeau

After just signing Houle to a three year extension, off he goes to another opportunity. A truly weird development, but deep down I am cheering for what it could mean for a young Laval Rocket team.

Do you think they'll try to get Vincent? Tell him develop the kids and you get your shot at the bigs, can't see Marty staying as coach forever, he'll want to move up.

Strange. He must have known about Clarkson before he signed I would think. And why would Clarkson pursue him after he signed in Laval?
It's less than a 3 hour drive to Montreal so he won't be far from home. I guess there is more money on the table & he sees it as a better opportunity. A little research showed me that he spent a lot of time there as player & assistant coach.
However, I am not impressed with how quickly he dropped Laval.

Clarkson University pays its head coach more than the Laval Rocket? Maybe, though I seriously doubt it.
I am not really sad to see him go. I imagine Vincent can get more out of the young Laval roster.

So let me get this straight...he trades a job one step removed from the NHL for a university job that is 4 steps removed.
In my world he gives up assistant GM in a multinational to be GM of of a local ma and pa.
Ooookay....

In my world he gives up assistant GM in a multinational to be GM of of a local ma and pa. Ooookay.... Several NCAA coaches have gone directly to the NHL. Badger Bob Johnson is the first I can think of. David Quinn went from BU to the Rangers, but he was an assistant in Colorado for a year and Head coached the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL for 3 years. But he had gone back to BU for 5 years before being hired by NY. Nonetheless, your point is taken. Houle has some affection for his alma mater and I don't think those guys are badly paid. Football head coaches in the NCAA are know to earn $11MM a season (Nick Saban), but that's the gladiator crazy US south where college football is a religion. Also....and this is my opinion only, Houle is a zillion steps removed from an NHL coaching job. I doubt he has the chops for it.

Lots of local media throwing his name around; however, it makes no sense to me. He was just fired as an NHL coach and has a taste of the bigs. I don’t see him taking a step back at this point.
