I can’t find my way to liking Jf Houle. Here’s some comments after a 2 game sweep of the Nothern division leading Lowell Lock Monsters. We’re near the bottom of the standings,” Houle said. “We’re not that good. We need to keep learning, keep battling, try to push up and get those important points. We’ll enjoy our wins but it’s going to be back to work and making sure we’re ready for our next opponents.” Nothing earth shattering but “we’re not that good”? You don’t need a PhD to see the Rocket are near the bottom , but they’ve faced all kinds of challenges. They’re just now getting back to full strength and can be strengthened with the arrival of Hutson or Reinbacher or Tuch. Their goaltending has improved. You’d think he could find a different approach than the Therrien negativity. Man, they need a different guy behind the bench. Considering they are trying to claw their way back into a playoff position, those two wins were huge. They are now 3 points back, but with extra game(s) played. They need all the wins they can get. You would think the head coach would have been thrilled with the weekend. Dufus.

The start of the reinforcements begins. Good timing after getting spanked 7-1 by the Marlies yesterday, which is double bad since that is one of the teams they are chasing for the last spot.

A massive win against Belleville. OT winner to Mailloux after a fabulous tying goal from Reinbacher. 3 in 3 against Belleville (2) and Toronto will make a massive difference in the playoff run. Cannot lose ground this weekend! So far so good.

Not a bad debut, Reinbacher! Different angle on the Reinbacher 1st goal... nice shot... and he didn’t pass

That is an impressive goal. Good anticipation good intercept, nice dangle to create the 2 on 1 and then the clinical finish. I hope that shuts up some of the detractors. And he’s still adapting to a ton of new things. The kids going to shut a lot of mouths.

I hope that it was just a glimpse of Reins potential.
It's been a long time since we had a dominating defense. I can't wait for Ministry of Defence to lead us again.

Who knows what his ceiling will be but from a style point of view, he always reminded me of Nik Lidstrom. Lidstrom was an excellent shut down defenseman. Rangy, good skater, strong. He was not a punishing hitter but took bodies out and pinned people to the boards as necessary. His gap control and stick work were excellent. Offensively, he had a good slapshot, and managed to get the puck through bodies in front, creating a lot of rebounds that ended up in goals. He rarely went end to end and in that way, Reinbacher may actually be better, as we saw in the goal last night. Lidstrom did those simple, basic things so well that he was the top Dman in the league for many years. That's the similarity to me and is probably why he doesn't wow his critics. They don't appreciate the impact of doing the simple basic things at a very high level. Reinbacher probably won't reach Lidstrom's heights, but the style is similar and effective. Add in some offense like last night and he becomes a really interesting prospect.
He's 19, coming off a troubled Swiss league season and an injury, adapting to a new rink size and totally new teammates and plays a solid game and rises to the occasion. What? Me Worry? (credit to Alfred E. Neumann)

*points at fellow Moderator* That would be me, who has questioned Mailloux's decision making in his own end. He has improved a lot this year, but I haven't read many comments about that improvement coming in his own zone. I get the feeling he is better than he used to be in that regard, with the question being whether he will achieve an acceptable NHL level for a top 4 defenseman. I haven't seen him play so can't comment on that directly. There are no questions about his offensive abilities. Terrific shot, gets it through, joins the rush, puts up points. He has 41 points in 61 games, outstanding numbers for a still 20 year old rookie defenseman. He's at -1 which actually isn't that bad, given the goalie issues the Rocket faced early in the season and the youth of the team. Maybe he has turned a corner. I'd love to hear from anyone who has seen Mailloux play, especially live, and can comment on his play in the Rocket end. If he can be an adequate defensive dman, his offensive abilities can really help the Habs, even if it's on the 3rd pair. We'd have like 6 or 7 top 4 dmen. Power.

Mailman lost a LOT of development time that affects his gap control and reads. Those are developed by rinse and repeat until they become instinct.
Ask Komisarsk who never learn and X who is improving.
Meanwhile he's displaying and honing elite offense that we desperately need. He is just as likely if not more likely to be our future 1st unit PP defenseman as much as yet-to-play-in-the-pros Hutson. We haven't seen Hutson yet but right now, Mailman is our most offense defenseman of our young core.
20 years old...and top 3 defenseman in points in the AHL...

Huge win for the Rocket last night 3-2 over Belleville. Dobeš with 29 saves in the win and goals by Heineman, Maillet and Gignac. The teams are now tied for the last playoff spot, but Belleville holds the edge as they have one game in hand. Today, the boys end their critical 3 in 3 against Toronto, who sits three points up. Last game against them last weekend was a disaster, so let’s hope for a very different result today.

I remember in his draft year that he spoke some French. But I think this was lost in all the controversy.

Rocket win 4-1. Awesome weekend, and a good debut for Mr. Reinbacher. A goal and an assist and net +2 over the 3 games. Rocket now tied with Belleville for the last playoff spot. Not sure what the tiebreaker is (games against each other?).
Ten games left for both Laval and Belleville. Rochester is only 3 points ahead but has game in hand.

I'd like them to beat Syracuse and Cleveland and send a message. I have concerns about their scoring, but improving the defense has the additional effect of boosting the offence. Better transitions, more time in the other team's end etc.
Another item of note, for me at least, is that Sean Farrell has popped a few goals lately. He's a guy that seems to acclimate to a league slowly at first and then, quite suddenly, figures it out and starts putting up points. He's come back from injury and I hope that adjustment is starting to take place.
I don't think there's going to be any additional offensive help arriving until Roy is healthy (if he is able to return during the playoffs). Hutson and Engstrom either can't join Laval, or probably won't because it would supplant someone who has been there all year and I doubt HuGo and Houle want to disrupt the chemistry that's happening. Josh Roy is the only possible addition, I think unless they want to try Luke Tuch.

So... when does Florian join Laval? Have to sign him to an ELC first or an ATO when his junior season ends. They hold his rights until summer 2025 and a lot depends on how many other contracts they dish out before July 1 when other prospects’ seasons end. I guess they could also do what they did with loads of other overagers and give him a one-year “show me” AHL deal for next year and an ATO for this year, more so to spread out the contracts as he has likely shown them that he is worth an ELC at this point for sure.

I thought his season ended already Brantford plays Ottawa in the first round. They are favoured too.
