For sure, Cranky, if Little X can tune up his first step and skate at NHL speed, the Habs could have another heavyweight in the lineup come 2025-26. And Mailloux could definitely be a big man who dish out pain, though if his skill makes him a 22-23 minute a night stalwart then he will have to pick his spots chucking knuckles. Having a brother on the Habs roster will incentivize Little X like nothing else. He probably eats and sleeps hockey with visions of playing next to his bro. The only thing to worry about is that he laser focuses on learning. What we want as a bare minimum is a better Pez, but another Tkachuk is nice too. The first one is not much of a hurdle to go past...the second would be a miracle. BTW...a few off season boxing lessons can always help. 1000 helmet punches are meaningles to a quick jab in the food intake.

I don't want to see Xs become boxers, just better and more effective punchers. One punch in yhe intake is worth a hundred hand breaking helmet ones. That's actually instinctive when they lrsrn a bit of boxing.

Lots of comments on the game but most has been said already. The Habs were not very disciplined and you can't do that against a top notch PP. But that's what happens when your opponent is controlling the majority of the game. That style of play will get the Habs another lottery pick if they don't fix it.

First thing I said after the fight..."At least we won't have to worry above Reaves anymore....he won't want to so his face after that." I'm not sure how many shifts he got after the fight but I don't remember seeing him on the ice. All the Leafs outlets are going on about how Reaves did his job to enrgize the team that led to the comeback. And Trevling must be happy with his off-season pick-up. I guess perspective is everything, and wanting to believe leafs will win cup trumps all. For the record, when X manhandled Reaves the score was 1-0 habs. If not for Cole's disallowed goal it would have been 3-0 Habs before the comeback. So 2 unanswered goals by Habs after Reaves embarassed himself. And Reaves was a -1, and his TOI for the game was 8:03, lowest of any leaf. I guess that's a good outing for a player getting $1.3 million eaxch of the next 3 years The pundits had to say something to soothe the Leaf fans scorched soul. Seeing a guy they expected to bring a Maginot line to Matthews and Marner turn into a breached Maginot line (X didn't bother going around it) had to raise all those questions they assumed answered. Reaves was probably thinking about all those challenges he will now have to answer to, which can't be pleasant for an aging 'heavyweight'. The last time Reaves had more PIM than games played, was 2017-18. That's over 5 years ago. It says that he's been living off his reputation because he hasn't fought as much as when he was younger. There may also be a lesser willingness to fight, with all the CTE issues and so on. It's a major reason I don't want Arber fighting unless absolutely necessary. It's dangerous, and especially more so for a 36 year old. On a podcast this morning the Toronto hosts were salivating, looking forward to the next time the Leafs play the Habs because, of course, Reaves will have to put matters straight. They joked about making sure no nets are in the way, forgetting that Arber was shoving Reaves back like he was Inge Hammerstrom. I don't know what Xhekaj's technique is like, but there is no questioning his brute strength. Anyway, I'd just as soon he kept his fighting to a minimum (sure, beat the crap out of Reaves and make the necessary statement), so he can concentrate on his play.

Reaves' pride hurt a little eh?
His take is silly. Yes, Xhekaj got an instigator and misconduct because the ref deemed that Reaves' check on Guhle was not boarding or way late (debatable judgment but that's another story). But reality is that Reaves knew Xhekaj was right there and hot about the hit. They dropped their gloves at the same time and Reaves got overpowered in the wrestling match that ensued.
Besides, if Reaves was so convinced that he got unfairly 'jumped' then he had most of the second period and the entire third to ask Xhekaj to dance. What did he do? Nothing. Frankly, I see a media ham with a big ego the day-after wanting to repair his "reputation" by whining about what happened (jeje, probably after he went home and watched the replay a few times of Xhekaj dumping him over Allen's net).

What I see is the downfall of a guy that's been bullying guys for years. Someone stood up & manhandled him & now he knows everyone saw it.
Guys will be emboldened to take him on now but they wont have many chances - he only plays about 5-6 minutes a game.😀
The media can spin it any way they want but this was s bad signing - like something out of the 90s.

Ryan Reaves was cruising around seeing how far he could get away with, and he found out after he smeared Kaiden Guhle into the boards ... that's when Arber Xhekaj "jumped" him, or so Reaves says, anyway ... whatever, couldn't care less ... what Xhekaj did was establish himself by dispatching the league's so-called, premier enforcer ... this is also a message to the league that there is a response in Montreal now ... anyway, it was a winnable game ... yeah, Jake Allen might want two of those goals back, but calling back Cole Caufield's goal just changed the whole direction of the game, at a time when the Habs were rolling ... that 2nd period notwithstanding, I thought the guys played well enough to win ... Sam Montembeault is up next ... he didn't have a good preseason, but if he gets to the level he was at last year, the team could surprise ... like they did against the Leafs ...
Cheers.

The leafs and Reaves can suck an egg, for years the Bruins jumped our guys without any repercussions so it is great to have the complete package... and Dis is right, everyone in the league saw what happened, I expect Reaves to get in a fight his next game against a middleweight just to lick his wounds... I was reading that leaf fans are pissed how XL was in their backyard and no one on the leafs noticed.

Anybody remember Furgy flexing his biceps? No? Neither do i.
The ONLY thing Reaves is good for is gooning it up. When i say only, i mean ONLY. So he gets taken to the barn, slapped around and now runing his mouth. Thats ALL he has left.
For years i kept dreaming of a player like X, even thought we had one in Komi....and now we have the real deal.
X sweater is going to be mandatory in my future...

If you slow that Reaves-Xhekaj tilt down, you'll see that Xhekaj rushed him, but waited for Reaves to turn around. The first person to attempt a punch was actually Reaves, but Xhekaj was ready for the quick spin throw and grabbed him right away so he couldn't get off another.
Oh, and Mailloux got into his first AHL fight last night. Norlinder was puck watching and got smoked into the boards. Mailloux immediately jumped in to fight. He could have started wailing away and won, but he waited for the guy to drop his gloves too. I think one one punch was landed (by the other guy), and Mailloux kinda lost his balance for a second ... but the Rocket players all gave him a tap afterwards.

I told'ya the Mailman will deliver pain.
With Little X likely in the lineup by 2025, we got ourselves a heavyweight team. We got go way back where we had this much bad hair day guys.

X definitely could have jumped him but he didn't. Lots of butthurt Leaf fans out there their big offseason purchase to give them an "edge" is a past his prime nothing. Good to hear about Logan M as well. Oh and Reaves running his mouth about a rematch and knows they don't play montreal again until March i think...

But then, that era is GONE. Now, I'll be happy with 3 heavyweights in the top 10. To repeat my self repeating what i repeated...the guys should take some boxing lessons. It's learning how to protect themselves and deliver short powerful jabs. I took Akido in university and my sensi took some of us by the ear and brought us to a boxing gym. Helmet on but getting punched in the face by a 120 pounder was a....wake up call. It dramatically change the defensive posture and hand speed. It's what makes Lucic so good.
