That's what I saw, too ... watched this last night from my local pub, and David Savard had everyone's attention ... a big loss to an already depleted team ... Cheers. Hey Disgruntled70sHab we're you watching it at the Oarsman? That's the pub, yep ...

The Habs have confirmed that Savard is out 6-8 weeks with a fractured hand.

Savard is a team-first gamer. His skill level is what it is. And he is not an open ice hitter or fighter, but the guy is tough as nails (physicality and shot blocking). This injury will be felt profoundly. There is no one ready to eat those 5v5 or PK minutes.

The possibility exists that we may spend less time in our own end, therefore incurring fewer penalties and having more productive 5 on 5 time.
I guess we now have a chance to see the result.

Random thought: if Guhle doesn't progress the way many of us expected bceause of his repeated injuries, I wonder if Hughes might end up surprising us and moving him for a youngish high-end forward, we have a surplus of LD, and if we want to keep Matheson around as a veteran presence, pretty soon we're going to have a LD surplus.
Management showed they were willing to move a guy most fans saw as unavailable in Romanov, so if they have an interested party with interest in Guhle... Well, let's say right now, I'd be listening.

Must say, i haven't been all that impressed with Guhle since his return. Little offecne and haven't seen much truculence or hitting from him. i'd even say if i had to pick between X and Guhle and their potential, I'd be leaning towards X. In fact, i can see X becoming a Pronger type dman as he possesses all the skills: strength, great shot, good skater, good team guy.

I love what X brings to the table but he still needs a lot of work.
Watched him closely in the previous two games and didn't like his breakout passes. They seem to hit a lot of sticks and I'm wondering if that is because of his skating or decision making.
He doesn't have elite skating to carry it and cause havoc, so he crosses the center line with the puck and tries to pass it, leading to higher risk of sticks in the way or odd man rushes.
Two fixes...get faster and carry it in OR don't carry it past the center line before passing. That later is easier said then done given the measly forwards we have.
Funny how you notice the little things in your favorite player when the team starts to play like bottom feeders.
As for Guhle, defensive defenseman tend to disappear when they are really good at it. Plays just die around them without bone crunching highlite reels. But they get exposed if the forwards are not doing THEIR job of coming back for defensive coverage. You can be a Weber level monster covering your man but it's close to worthless if that guy has multiple passing options. It actually can work against you because instead of killing the play, that forward has taken you out and letting his teamates keep cycling and taking shots.
The best defensive defenseman are worthless without a strong TEAM defensive game. That is on the roaches err, coaches.
Sigh...

I was pleased with Guhle's physicality in the Chicago game. He had no time for Athanasiou trying to stickhandle out of a phone booth.

I was pleased with Guhle's physicality in the Chicago game. He had no time for Athanasiou trying to stickhandle out of a phone booth. GREAT TAKEOUT! To repeat muyself because I like the sound of my inner voice rattling in my head...Guhle could NOT do that if the forwards were not there to get the puck. He smacked Athanasiou but in turn, Athanasiou tied him up. That is always the problem with deciding to hit someone. This is where the guys who are really good are able to judge their go/nogo about hitting someone. Guhle is good at it. X is working in progress getting better. Mailmanm still was using his OHL brain but may be learning and adjusting by leaps and bounds. Weber was great at it because he was overwhelming and a lot of forwards never got the chance to pass before getting pasted.

Weber was great at it because he was overwhelming and a lot of forwards never got the chance to pass before getting pasted. Xhekaj keeps getting screwed by the refs. He is so strong that when he takes out a guy, it looks like some normal guy going way over the line. A crunch into the boards is considered boarding. I wonder if Chara had those same issues before he 'broke out'. I bet the refs finally got used to him hurting people with a legal check, and stopped penalizing him. X has to get that Chara cachet.

I hope they elaborate on what the injury was, but probably not. He was practicing the other day with a dark visor. One can surmise that it may be concussion related. Not confirmed though.

If a player has a concussion, they should be out a minimum amount of time... not just when the players says he feels fine.

I would laugh at any suggestion of playoffs but...
My online medical degree from Noweristan says that he may indeed be ready but do we want to throw him into the smashface playoffs with a fresh knee? Shouldn't he get to keep his new toy at least through the summer?
All seriousness aside i preffer we pick top 5 instead of pretend contenders and a first round exit. Sadly, we will fall in the middle.

I heard he could be ready in March Just in time for the playoffs!! That's the plan I thought. Get in the dance, and then make a mockery of Homecoming by adding 20M of salary ... 😛

Not good news for Harris.
RHP out for a while. The injury bug problem seems alive and well for the third season in a row, even with the staff “changes”.
