So not much to root for right now except Suze killing it, Slafs growing by leaps and bounds each game, Cole finding his shot and Primeau getting Monty worried. But still scoreboard watching to follow how the other cellar dwellers are doing so we learn our fate. I guess i don't have much of a social life as followed the last 10 minutes of the Yotes game tonight. Yotes came back from a 4-1 deficit to Vegas with 6 unanswered third period goals!!! 7-4. They're now just one point behind us, although we have a game in hand. Just a tease as they got a tough schedule. I'm going with 8th as I think Sens and Flames will be ugly ove rthe next 2 weeks as they have been the last 2 weeks, and Habs will be getting points And I see the poll has 7th as 'where we are now". We are actually in 6th now but can't figure out how to correct the poll. Let's see how many posters call out the error.

Maybe it's more hope than actual belief, but I want to finish 5th last. Don't we have the toughest schedule? Maybe Primeau and Monty go into a late season slump. We could use a spate of weak goaltending.

Last 7 games in 11 days for the Habs. I think they'll be worn down pretty good towards the end.

Tonight we'll find out where the Habs are positioned prior to the lottery. Sitting 6 now, but 1 point from the Coyotes tonight will bump the Habs back to 5th. I like the odds of that happening considering it's the Yotes' final game in Arizona and that Edmonton have nothing to play for, save avoiding injuries.

Edmonton has so much firepower that even if they are not working hard for 60 minutes, they can easily win a game with a handful of isolated appearances of individual brilliance.
I think the emotional edge should help the Coyotes. Hopefully they can snag a point.

All the Oilers' top dogs had substantial ice time in the 1st period. Curious to see if that continues throughout the game.

2-1 Yotes late in the second period. Nice goal by Maccelli to take the lead.

3-2 Yotes with a lot of time to go against a team with a lot of firepower. Hope they're better at holding 3rd period leads than the Habs

It was 3-1 for a few minutes and I was relaxing. A little less relaxed now but even a tie works for us.

Chapeau a 17 who is the only one who predicted 5th! Habsorbed, the loser, was the only one who missed by 3 places, predicting 8th. But very happy with my loss! Who would've thunk we could get so excited watching a Yotes game. I see this turned into a GDT. I was screaming with joy when Yotes were scoring in the 3rd. It helps to hate the Oilers. (Must say i also enjoyed the clock ticking down in the Leafs game and Matthews with the goose egg) Sad watching the Yotes fans at the end in tears. But not as if they didn't see this coming when the arena they moved into sits less than $5000. That a'boy Gary The lottery is going to be exciting with 8.5% chance at Celebrini. If we get him, we will have a dynasty in a few years. Likely have one without him, given our current stable but can never have too many studs.

Hopefully this is the last year that we're paying close attention to the bottom of the standings. Fingers crossed that we get the big prize on lottery day and kickstart the next phase of this rebuild!

On the Tankathon lottery simulator...2nd try, Habs #1. Even though all teams haven't yet completed the regular season....I'm not doing it again.

The CAP makes it really tough to keep enough studs in your line-up. We aren't a no state tax jurisdiction, so we lose that huge advantage. Hughes and Gorton are doing it right, though, locking in key guys at a young age and maybe saving a million here, a million there. As we see, scouting and development become key legs of the contending stool, to mainain competitiveness. That takes a long time to judge, but HuGo have started off well. That's the main key, management, so I want Geoff to treat Jeff and Kent really well, overpay them and have them love their time in Montreal so much they never want to leave.

We need some of that Edmonton luck of getting mutltiple 1st overalls. It doesn't guarantee success but increases your chances of building something special. We still need a couple of offensive studs up front. Maybe a power forward and a goal scorer?

I'd be happy with either Greentree or Iginla( because I think catton & lindstrom will be gone) and Eiserman

A dumb move would be to do another Kotkaneimi.
If Levshunov is there then we draft him and if he as good as they say, then trade Ghule for someone like Dawson.
Absolutely stupid to draft based on need and leave a top 2 defenseman on the board.

Those assets are only worth what the market demands and the better the player, the better the market interest. Besides how does huGo know what are needs are, or more importantly will be. Our needs are only relevant when we are a contender and then you go get what you need to become a champion. And when that time comes, you want the most valauble asset to enter the market with to get whart you needmarket, not what you thought your team needed 3 years ago. BPA will always be a better asset if your scouting is any good

I never understood drafting for need. The team's needs are immediate & the player you choose is most likely to be 1-3 years away from filling that need.

Consentino released updated rankings yesterday. Levshunov is #2. I have only seen one weird outlier ranking where he fell to fifth or sixth, but basically I see no way that kid drops out of the top three. Chicago and Anaheim and San Jose all have a huge need for a future top pair RHD.

So according to Cansetino, we're drafting Yakemchuck? He's got Lindstrome at 10th in March and in April, Catton at 9 Ingila at 10, Linds at 11. So now it looks like we got... Rein, Mailman and Yaks on the right. Hutson, X and best hopium on the left. www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/sportsnets-2024-nhl-draft-prospect-rankings-april-edition/Don't fret, Ghule can fetch a Dawson. It will just take a bit longer to gel the Perennial Contenders.
