Either the Bruins were off their game, or the Leafs kept them off. Didn't even look like the same Boston team.

3-0 Isles with approx. 7:00 to go in the 2nd; ahead 3-1 about halfway through the 3rd.
Up 3-2 with 2:15 left in regulation, they give up 2 goals in 9 seconds. An empty-net later...5-3 Canes.
Brutal loss.

Isn't Toronto doing exactly that this year? Once Nylander returns from injury aren't they in the same situation as Vegas? I don't think so. If Nylander had been injured in game 50 and the Leafs picked up two expiring contracts for star players and then Nylander came back, it would be the same. The Vegas Cheating Knights either 1) manufactured an injury to give a player a lot of rest (I believe there's no independent diagnosis, the NHL believes the team doctors) 2) or it was a legitimate injury, which the Golden Cheating Knights used to stack up but Stone is really not ready to return, but wants to play anyway. I don't give a fig for all the excuses that it's legal, blah, blah, blah. Only 1 other team has used that strategy and theirs was a tainted cup as well. If I was the commish, I'd have an asterix placed beside those two cups. Make it 3 as I think Covid tainted Tampa's second Cup. Just because you use a loophole or technicality in court to win your case it doesn't mean you weren't guilty.

I guess Patrick's going to hear about it this time, because he's used up his two cup rings. (I wear hearing aids and I have no idea how one would stuff a ring into an ear)

Two other points.
1. Since I'm the great Matthews slagger, I have to give him his due. Three points tonight (two secondary assists, but they weren't cheap ones) and a surgical winning goal. The down side is that we may be seeing that goal for the next 50 years. He played well and the extra effort showed.
2. The Vegas Golden Cheaters are leading Dallas 4-3 late in the 2nd. Oettinger's save percentage is now up to .714. That's not a typo. UP to .714. It was .600 for a long while. 4 goals on 10 shots, but he's saved 4 more since, so it's improved. The Cheating Knights (I keep wavering between the 2 names) with all that talent, have only 14 shots on goal. Stone, Pietrangelo and Hanifin are all -2.
Go Stars!!!!

Once Nylander returns from injury aren't they in the same situation as Vegas? What Willie is talking about is putting a guy on LTIR & then using the space at deadline time to pick up extra contracts. TB did this when Kucherov missed an entire regular season in 2020/21. Chicago did this for one of their Cup runs when Kane was injured- 2013 I think.

Boston crapped the bed last night. They didn't play well and didn't have much pressure. Pasta and the Rat have been pretty much missing in action and it's been the bottom lines keeping them in it.

How long before they start selling off pieces and committing to a rebuild of sorts.

I feel a quiet contentment watching Marchand's career come grinding to an end. It's too bad he's only got the one year left at $6MM.

I just the recap of the Canucks game. The shots were only 18-16 Vancouver as they lose 4-1. Anyone know why Desmith was in rather than Demko?

Bruins / Leafs scoreless after one. Going back to game 2 - it is now 3 straight periods without a goal for Boston, on Samsonov for pete's sake. I don't like where this is going,

Yeah, tough deal there, because I think Vancouver will lose the series without Demko.
Aside from Pastrnak, the Bruins are just not replete with offensive maestros. Their workboot centers manning the top six are like cool '80s Jeep Wagoneer performance wise, not high end Porsche or Audi. It makes Samsonov's life easier.
The Islanders should have probably stolen a game on the road but they need to put together 60 minutes or they will golfing soon. Washington is as woefully undermanned talent wise vis-a-vis the Rangers as we all thought they would be.
