Sergei still skunked on the scoresheet. Sulking perhaps? The boys are now within five points of second place Grand Rapids with a game in hand. Although they are third in their division, they have the 6th best record in the AHL. WB Penguins are one of only five teams with a better record, so a nice win tonight all around. Welcome home boys. stats.theahl.com/stats/statdisplay.php?type=standingsGreat work considering all the player movement this year.

re: Sergei, was gonna say i'm ok with him getting skunked on the scoresheet as long as he wasn't a -3 or something. Went over to the game sheet and he was the only -2 for the team. oops 3 games 0 points. I kinda wondered if Andrei was a little envious how quickly Sergei made the jump compared to him, who was a 1st round pick. In a strange way this will be good for Sergei, he'll find his work ethic and edge again, he'll learn how long bus rides are, and come back hungrier and less complacent. that is unless he bolts for the Russian league.

They lost their third game of the weekend, but playing three in three is really tough.
Here is what Lever had to say about Sergei and a few of the other no-shows (taken from the Hamilton Spectator article):
"We ran out of gas," Lever said. "We had tough games Friday and Saturday, and they were sitting here waiting for us. I don't want to use that as an excuse because there's no excuse for the way some of the guys played. (T.J.) Kemp, (Brock) Trotter and (Sergei) Kostitsyn were just awful. (David) Desharnais was bad and (Ben) Maxwell never showed up all weekend."
How do you really feel, Coach? LOL
The bad part is that this is a team they should have beaten, and this was their third straight loss to Syracuse. Oh well, they will need their rest as they are off all week and have another three in three this weekend, including the third game on the road in Cleveland on Sunday (who is that schedule maker again?).

Thanks for the update on O'Byrne. If his game (including physical play) continues to improve I hope he gets a call up. There still are things he can "get away" with in the AHL that will make him look foolish if he reacts that slowly in the NHL, but it is still nice to see him getting better in a lot of what was holding him back when he was up with the Habs earlier in the season. I would expect that Carbo is a tough guy to play for if he benches you when you make mistakes. For a developing playing, that coaching style may get players over-thinking their game too much. It sure seemed to have an impact on OB's game, although some of those plays were just pure brain cramps with noone else to blame but...the big guy from Victoria. I am guessing with BooBoo out with a serious groin booboo, that a seventh Dman would be nice. Although, with forwards coming back from the IR, Carbo may be planning on using Dandy back there and keeping the kids up as well as they have been holding their own.

It is a superb AHL defense. When you combine that with the really solid goaltending from Marc Denis of late and Desjardins as a decent backup, they have really shored up from the back end out. Interesting move to sign VanGuilder (another Minnesota boy!!). He is the leading scorer down in Cincy with the ECHL affiliate and they have really turned their season around after a very slow start. Dogs are a wee bit short on offensive forwards with injuries and callups these days. Since it is a PTO, this is likely to get them through until guys like Glumac are healthy and ready to return, or the Habs send one or more guys back once their injury situation sorts itself out.

Two stinkers in a row after losing last night to Rochester. They gave away four points this weekend to teams chasing them in their division. I can hardly wait to hear Lever's quotes on these two massive eggs that they laid. They can salvage the weekend with a win in Cleveland tomorrow afternoon. It is on AHLlive free tomorrow, so folks can watch it on a webcast for free. ahl.neulion.com/team/console.jsp

Dogs snap the three game losing skid with a hard earned win today 3-1 on the road in Cleveland against the Lake Erie Monsters. Desjardins was really solid in net with 40 or so saves. Goals by Gainey, Lehoux and Trotter. Good game overall with a few more injuries causing grief in Hamilton too (OB, Shelast and Carle from games this weekend).
Janik played his first game, and was generally invisible. For a defensive dman, that is good in my books. He did make a few solid defensive plays and never got into trouble.
Sergei was okay, but not as dominating as you would expect. This is his fifth game down in the Hammer, so he should be hitting his stride by now. He was working hard and skating, but still looked a little lost. He isn't earning that call up in any way, shape or form right now.
The bus ride home will be a lot more fun now that they won.

Dogs win a huge game tonight, 3-2 in Syracuse in OT against a team that has given them fits for some reason of late. It may have taken 42 shots on net, but they got it done in OT. Desjardins was in net for the win. Denis is expected to join the Habs tomorrow to replace Mr Halak who has the flu. He likely will get a bus ride to the hotel in Buffalo!! Maxwell scored the first on the PP, snapping a 0 for 23 run with the Dogs PP. Sergei got the second, also on the PP, with a cannon of a shot. Captain Chipper (just back in time) stole the puck in OT and fed a nice pass to Russell who buried it for the win. Nobody seems happier to see Kyle than Russell, who dried up without his regular centreman. Chipper cannot seem to win faceoffs in the AHL either. He way want to change that soon. Weber had a solid game, getting two assists and showing Matt Carle what is takes to get noticed in a Bulldogs jersey. stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1005858

A little more breathing room between the Dogs and the Marlies thanks to a 2-0 win tonight in the Dog Pound. Considering the Marlies are the one in the rear view mirror, this was huge.
Desjardins out battles Pogge and gets his third shutout of the season, and the 10th of the season for the Dogs...wow. Sergei gets a point letting Maxwell loose on the breakaway in the third for what turned out to be the GWG. Captain Chipper finds his buddy Russell (tell me again who is the happiest that Chipper is back with the Dogs?) for an empty netter with one whole second left.
5th place Syracuse up next in the Hammer tomorrow night.

Sergei now has 3 points in his last 4 games after starting the first 4 pointless. Hamilton need someone to step up offensively and hopefully Sergei takes that spot.
Mike Glumac made his return finally after missing just over a month know.

Sergei with another point, I see. That's 4 in 5. Lever's got his boot firmly up Sergei's posterior, I'm sure.
I'm glad to see he's shooting more, too. So far he's getting 3 shots on goal most games, which is about right IMO. At that level, maybe even 4.

Sergei is on a real hot streak. Hamilton 1-0 over the Marlies after the 1st with Sergei scoring the only goal. It was on the PK as he beat a forward with a nice move then wristed it over Pogge.
Desjardins also hot with a 146.08 minute shutout streak and closing in on Olivier Michaud franchise record of 158 and nine second streak set in 2004.

Not sure if its posted anywhere, but RDS just announced that Sergio Momesso is the new assistant to Ron Wilson in Hamilton. He doesn`t seem to have a whole lot of experience.

Not sure how they are gooing to fair but should be interesting. Both are named on an interm basis so............... not sure good or bad they have the rest of season to prove themselves. Would of likes Chuck Weber to be given a chance as he's got ECHL's Cyclones contending dispite having close to fifety different players playing for them this season.

He was with the Habs as a Player Development Consultant. Hmmm, wonder what he does in that job? I guess he now has less time for his resto on Saint Jean.

Weber would have been a good choice. Not only does he have the team playing well this season, but he took a lot of the current Bulldogs to the Kelly Cup championships last year. He would know Desjardins, Desharnais, Wyman, Aubin, St Denis and the injured Beauregard and Latendresse. Almost the same reason you want Lever up in Montreal.

What a crazy game tonight in Hamilton.
3-1 with a minute to go, the Dogs score 2 goals in 23 secs to tie it up, and then the Moose win it 20 something seconds left. What a last minute of play.
Swoosh, there goes a point, and maybe more.
These two teams get to do better tomorrow night. Tough one.

Weber finally potted one to break his 14 game goal less streak. Kostitsyn added another 2 assist and looked good again.

After starting with no points in five games S.Kostitsyn has 10 points in 12 games. He was playing with a little bit of an edge stirring stuff up, which is good, but a couple of times last night he just walked away tonight leaving his teammates to finish what he starts.

Dogs headed off to Rochester tonight and won 4-3 in a shootout. Glumac has been red hot since coming back from his hand injury with another two goals tonight. He has the team lead with 28 so far. Yannick Lehoux was the shootout hero scoring twice to knot the win (internesting AHL rule that allows a repeat shooter once you go through the first five guys and it is still tied).
Edit: On the Sergei watch, he ended up the night with one assist.

After another solid Mike Glumac-led win on Tuesday night, the Dogs fell 2-1 tonight in OT to Quad City (the Baby Flames, and a team rumoured to be on the move to Abbotsford BC next season). This was a game in which Marc Denis made 37 saves, but not the last couple of them unfortunately. A goal in the last minute of the third and first minute of OT was all she wrote. Too bad, but still good to see the Dogs get another point on this five game road trip. More to come tomorrow night against Chicago Wolves. Sergei got the only Dogs' goal tonight. Someone is trying to get his butt back up to Montreal it would appear. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/article/bulldogs-burned-by-flames-2-1-in-overtimeEdit: that is a nine game points streak for Sergei.
