The Habs 08/09 could take a lesson or two on how to overachieve from these boys.
They won again tonight, 3-2 in a SO against Chicago on game 4 of a 5 game road trip. That is a 3-0-1 record so far, so hope they keep things on track against Milwaukee tomorrow. The Ads are in second overall in the AHL and have already clinched a playoff spot, but why let that stop our give-it-all Dogs. Interim Coach Wilson and Interim Assistant Momesso (who spent a lot of time coming down and spending one on one time with players this season) seem to be filling Coach Lever's spot just fine. Let them develop in a good environment, Habs brass!!
Glumac and Weber scored in regulation (all the usual suspects), with Lehoux (the team leading point getter) and Trotter sealing the deal in the SO with goals. Denis was solid again with loads of saves and the big "W". Free agent signings Lehoux, Glumac, Denis, Henry and tough guy Flinn have been HUGE for the Dogs this season. Nice job Bob and friends. Too bad that pro scouting does not always pan out up in Montreal.
Here is the AHL promo stuff leading into this weekend's games:
Hamilton is on a 7-2-0-0 run that his lifted the Bulldogs within two points of second place in the North Division... Sergei Kostitsyn is riding an eight-game scoring streak (3-9-12), and rookie Brock Trotter is on a five-game run (2-5-7)... Mike Glumac has scored a goal in six straight games (8-2-10), the longest current streak in the AHL and the longest by a Bulldog this season... Hamilton has scored progressively more goals in each period, netting 63 in the first, 76 in the second, and 83 in the third... The Bulldogs, winners of six straight road games, visit Quad City, Chicago, and Milwaukee this weekend.
Just to update the AHL site info, Hamilton is now 8-2-1-0 after the last two games. Darn impressive I would say.

Yet, few stars on that team, but a lot of leadership I'd say.
Chipchura's no doubt helping in that category. Nice to see S Kost picking up the scoring. Glumac seems to be a player. But not young, so I assume his skating is what's keeping him from the show.

But not young, so I assume his skating is what's keeping him from the show. I hope the Bulldogs bring him back next year, as he's got good hands but also works hard and goes to the net hard. He's having a great year in Hamilton and a good veteran presence. At the NHL level i think his skating would hold him back. Very slow and a ackward skating stride IMO.

The Dogs destroyed San Antonio tonight, 6-1. Maxwell led the team with a hat trick, Pacioretty followed him with 3 points (1+2) and 9 shots in his AHL return. Wyman and Russell also potted goals in a game that was never really close. Game SummaryHamilton now has 91 points for 4th (15 points up on 8th) in the conference with 7 games remaining.

Well, the Dogs to control their own destiny from here on in, but it is a tough schedule.
They play six of their seven games against the two teams they are chasing in their own division - Manitoba and Grand Rapids. It all starts this weekend with a pair of tilts in Winnipeg on Friday and Sunday. They wrap up their regular season with a game against the Marlies, the team in fourth in their division.
Any Habs/Dogs fans in Winnipeg...get out and cheer on the boys this weekend!!

Bulldogs lost 2-1 in overtime to the Moose tonight in what was a very boring game, there were points where I honestly stopped paying attention. They dominated on the shot clock (36-20), but I didn't get the impression watching that they were outclassing Manitoba. stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1005815My impressions are short, apparently you don't get a lineup card thing if you're in a suite, and sitting behind the netting meant that I couldn't read the names on the jerseys. I'm going to print a copy of the Bulldogs' roster before I head out to Sunday's game, so I will probably be better off for that game. The game *Chipchura was alright overall. Awesome on the penalty kill, great as always along the boards, pretty good on faceoffs (although he lost a key draw late in the 3rd). That was the good. He did look slow at times in the first, but in the second he had a great burst of speed and a partial breakaway before he lost the handle skating in. I loved what I saw on the PK and along the boards, but he wasn't a shining star. Then again, the whole game seemed to be like that. *Weber was interesting. He was alright defensively, but got beat a couple of times due to his smallness, looked good on the puck and let some pretty good shots go which was nice. The best part of his game was crosschecking a Moose player to the ice after that player hit his defense partner right after an icing call. It's always good to see guys stick up for each other. *Carle had a similar game to Weber, probably a bit better defensively. His point shot led to the Hamilton goal. Solid defensively, not much there. *Maxwell looked pretty good. He had his moments, but I didn't see anything absolutely spectacular. Saw him with some nice bursts of speed *Desharnais impressed the hell out of me. Always dangerous offensively, carried the puck really well, he was really noticeable out there. One of the best players on the ice *White was practically invisible, to me, not knowing who his number has something to do with it though. Only time I noticed him was on the way to the penalty box. *Pacioretty had his moments, looked good overall and made a couple very nice plays with the puck. Strong on the forecheck, played fairly physical. *Trotter also impressed me, seemed like a pretty good player out there and he seemed to be around where the happenings were, so to speak. Hopefully Sunday turns out better, I can't believe the Bulldogs had 36 shots, it sure didn't seem like it to me. Then again, it didn't seem like Manitoba got 20, what a boring game.

I looked at the summary & saw the referees' names. Frederic L'Ecuyer stood out. He's the guy who was one of the refs in that debacle in Carolina, the one where the penalties were 11 - 1 in favor of the Hurricanes. I was complaining that night that poor play gets a guy sent to the minors but poor officiating does not. I guess I was wrong - unless there is another ref with the same name.

Lookie, lookie, the Dogs are in second place in their division. Another big win against Grand Rapids tonight in Steel town give the Dogs a tie for second place, but they get the nod with four more wins. Trotter, Weber, Russell and Lehoux round out the scoring with goals coming on the PP, PK, and five on five. Desjardins made 18 saves in the win. The Dogs know their opening game series is against Grand Rapids, so this is to send a message and to get home ice advantage. Three more games left: Manitoba, Grand Rapids and Toronto to round out the regular season. Welcome back to the post season Doggies!! stats.theahl.com/stats/statdisplay.php?type=standings

MaxPac back last night and gets three assists in a huge 6-2 against AHL leading Manitoba Moose. The Dogs have played them tough all season, which bodes well as they will have to get through them to get out of the division in the playoffs. However, don't look ahead of the big series against GR Griffons. The Dogs are back in second with two to go, none more important than tomorrow night in GR. They win that and they get second place and home ice against the same team they have played three times in the last couple of weeks. That should be one heck of a series.

On February 4th, the Dogs were 12 points behind Grand Rapids in the battle for 2nd place. Tonight they won the last head to head regular season game 3-2 and clinched second and home ice against GR in the first round that starts next week. What a run by the boys!! This was also GR's first loss in regulation when leading after two periods, also impressive to see the boys come from behind. Glumac with two and Maxwell with one in the win, with Denis in net.
There were some real scrappy moments in this game, a lot like the Habs-B's game last night as it is a preview of the best of seven first round series that follows shortly. Should be a good series, and the Dogs are playing really solid hockey right now.

Mathieu Carle (we were talking about him on the main page, about the possibility of calling him up), gets two assists and 3rd star tonight. I sure hope he improves steadily as he has the offensive potential we sorely need on the big club.

I sure hope he improves steadily as he has the offensive potential we sorely need on the big club. Short term and if Schneids cannot play, it could work (but I would be worried about his ability to play in his own end, something that lacks almost moreso than the Habs not having a bone fide offensive PP QB while Markov is hurt and Schneids is playing super-human man on whatever the team docs are feeding him). In the long term, I see we have better options. I think Weber has better hockey sense and a harder shot, and Subban is way more dynamic. Carle still has something the team needs, but I am not sure what stock to put into the media-driven "I want to be traded" crap or how he will react to a few younger guys jumping him in the depth chart. Not sure if this is media blowup or if this guy thinks he needs to be traded. I would want to know that answer before I made a call up move.

Considering how many long term calluups there has been this year, that's quite an achievement. PROGRAM NOTE: I live about 80km northwest of Toronto. The local Rogers community station is showing the Bulldogs/Marlies game tonight at 5PM.

Dogs beat those Marlies 2-1 in OT to get their fifth straight win and franchise tying 49th win of the season. Desharnais and Carle (GWG) were the snipers. Now they get a few days off to prepare for Grand Rapids and the start of the playoffs.

A little write up on the Dogs' end of the regular season in the Spec. They only finished five points back of the AHL leading Moose. Darn impressive with all those call ups. www.thespec.com/article/547496They do have something pretty special going on right now.

I really like their defense to start the playoffs even with Weber in Montreal. Jancevski, Janik, Belle, Carle, Kemp and Anderson got to be one of he top d- corps in the league. Their offense is not spectacular but pretty solid. Goaltending should not be an issue either. Lots of toughness and some good character players. Good mixture of youth and veterans.
I think they will do well this offseason too.

Yikes, the boys are showing why the playoffs are considered a new season. 4-3 on Friday and now 3-1 tonight and they are in a HUGE hole down 2-0 heading out to Grand Rapids for the next two games. After a semi-superb regular season they need to crank things up a notch or two to get the heck out of this tough first round series. All the momentum they built up beating GR three times in the last 10 days of the regular season is out the window. They now have to bear down again and make things happen on the road.

I'm reading that Max Pac got hurt in game two. I read he suffered a sports hernia and will miss the rest of the season but will get a second opinion. Edit: As per The Spec...... "Max Pacioretty did not make the trip with the Bulldogs to Michigan. He's being looked at for a sports hernia and is officially listed as day to day." www.thespec.com/Sports/article/551975

A real disappointing finish to a promising season. The Bulldogs seemed to have a pretty good combonation of size and experience mixed in with some good young talent. To be ousted in the first round was surely a huge letdown for the club.
Many of the teams experienced players are UFA this offseason. A list that includes: Marc Denis, Dan Jancevski(Dallas property), Doug Janik, T.J. Kemp, Yanik Lehoux, Alex Henry, Mike Glumac, Chad Anderson and Ryan Flinn. Some I hope return like Henry, Jancevski and Glumac but others will go, if only to make room for next season's advancing youth.
On the positive side some of our prospects had soem good season's this year. Guy's like:
Kyle Chipchurla had a great year this season. He was team captain and he elevated his game in that role. 35 points in 51 games is not remarkable but he played against the opposition's top line every night and finished with a plus 28. He and Ryan Russell formed a great checking line and they worked extremely well on the PK. A true team player which I hope will work a little more on his skating in the summer and finally make the jump to the Habs full time next season. Perhaps splitting time on the wing if there's no room at center.
Ben Maxwell came into the season with a very concerning history of injury. Not only did he play 73 games this season finished 3rd in scoring on the team. He played a good two way game this season and showed some slick passing, stick handling, good speed and a little bit of goal scoring. A good rookie year for the twenty-one year old as he finished 4th amoung first year players in scoring.
Surprisingly he was not the top rookie scorer playing on Hamilton. David Desharnais finished one spot ahead of him on the rookie chart. The 5'6" player showed all season that he is very skilled hard working player that thinks the game out well. He played with heart all season going into traffic to create chances and also doesn't mind working hard in the defensive zone either. Great underdog player could use some more speed to stick in the NHL to go along with his offensive skill, effort and smarts.
Brock Trotter had a slow start but finished well on a solid rookie year. 49 points showed he has some talent as he's a good scorer, playmaker and pretty slick puckhandler. He would be smart to work on his strength and mass as well as getting quicker. Finishing 13th in rookie scoring was not a bad start though.
Max Pacioretty at one point he was leading the Hamilton Bulldogs in assists before being recalled. He only played 37 games due to that recall but he is right up there with Ben Maxwell for points per game average in addition to playing a solid physical brand of hockey. The twenty year old got his feet wet in the NHL this season and next season he should have a spot on Montreal's top two lines locked.
Hamilton's defense was filled with veteran players but the one who stood out offensivley was Yannik Weber. He lead Hamilton in scoring among defensemen, top 17 in the AHL in rookie scoring, 2nd in the AHL in goals by a defensemen, 7th in the AHL in scoring among all defensemen. He was rewarded with 3 games for Montreal in the regular season and 3 playoff games.

Thanks man........... next year's crop should be very interesting with Subban and Fortier coming for sure with perhaps McDonagh, Fischer and dare I say Emelin if they choose to turn pro or make the trip overseas respectily. And we should expect improvment from White, O.Latendresse, Carle, Desjardins, Conboy, Aubin, Russell and Beauregard amoung the players I mentioned in my previous post.
