Can't see McCarron playing in Hamilton next year unless he's going back to junior. I could see him playing in St. John's though.

I think if he's ready, he's ready. If he outplays some guy with a $2mm contract, tough tooties for the $2mm guy.
The largest obstacle most kids face is the pace of the game at the NHL level and the size and strength of the players. Physically, he can already compete if not dominate, Do you remember that exhibition game vs the Bruins, when Kevan Miller tried running him over? And then look at the backcheck....that's Carl Soderberg he's chasing and keeping up with. No one questions Soderberg's speed.

The Q final is all tied up, with Rimouski taking the last two games 4-2. Fucale was pulled in the last game, but I expect he will get the start in Game 5. As Quebec is the host, both of these teams have their ticket punched already for the Memorial Cup, so this is a warm up and for bragging rights going into the short tournament.
Over in the OHL, Oshawa staked a 3-1 series lead with a 6-5 OT win against Erie. McCarron had an assist and they are now one win away from their berth in the big show. I know Sportsnet and advertising sponsors are likely drooling at the prospect of Connor McSaviour being in the Memorial Cup. Not this puppy, I want McCarron!!

Awesome star power, huh NWT? Non memorial cup Juniour games being televised during the NHL and NBA playoffs because of McDavid. I too want to see our Mac in the Mem. McDavid will survive without a MEmorial Cup. Gretzky never won one either.

For sure 17, but it was not enough. The Gens prevailed 6-2 with Big Mac getting a goal and an assist (GWG too). Off to the Memorial Cup they go.
Fucale back in net and had 34 stops for the win. They are up 3-2 in the bragging rights finals.
Kelowna has also booked its spot. That is one good team.

Watched some of the Gens game. They definitely had times where they relied on the ability to ice and change. Some controversy on a Otters disallowed goal. After a lengthy review the on ice call was reversed, as they judged the puck was directed in by a hand and not a stick. That would have made it 4-3 Generals.
Generals are a big team, with a significant number of drafted players. That level of talent, size, and experience seemed to be a factor. Appleby made some very nice saves for Oshawa. He's an undrafted 20 year old.

He's a great athlete. Waite should be able to do great things with him.

He's a great athlete. Waite should be able to do great things with him. An inconsistent glove hand and rebound control can be improved with good coaching (and we have a good one), but you cannot coach compete level or resilience.

Thanks for posting the article NWT.The young man has a great pedigree... me thinks we are set in goal for a long long time. A tandem of Price and Fucale would be awesome.

One usually can't afford two excellent goalies, either salary wise or playing time wise. But if they have good trade value, then it's worth it until you can swap one for a weakness somewhere else.

True but Fucale can be a backup for a few years. Also with the large number of games CP played this year, I would hope Zach could help reduce that number so Carey doesn't get worn out.

Yeah, no doubt that during Fucale's development stage, you can keep both of them and it will work well for them and the team. I was projecting a bit further, when Fucale is ready for prime time and Carey probably still has a few good years left in him.

It is always good to keep the goalie pipeline strong. We also have one of the better goalies in the AHL, despite the poor showing of the team overall this past season in Mike Condon. He gives the Berg some competition for Carey's backup with Tokarski going forward.
When we drafted Price we still had Theo, and folks had similar conversations then. I expect it will all work out by the time Fucale is ready to call the NHL home. Playing behind Carey for a few years doesn't seem all that bad to me.
Fucale has his doubters, but I look forward to see how he develops with new pro goalie coaches.

Does Waite spend any time with our goalies who aren't pro? That might be stepping on a juniour coach's toes, but it might also be considered a free assist. I suspect that he doesn't.

Fucale in goal for the Remparts against Kelowna in the Memorial Cup opener. On Sportsnet now. Big win, with Kelowna up two men for the last stretch. Have not seen a 6 on 3 too often. Fucale with some cool saves down the stretch. I consider this result an upset. The Rockets are solid. Fucale first star.

Yeah, right from the beginning, Fucale was in a good zone. And Kelowna seemed to be out of synch just a little. Enough to just miss on lots of opportunities. They also seemed undisciplined, not a lot, but they got a fair number of calls against. I actually like that. If it's a penalty, it's a penalty. Cripes, Tampa's constantly interfering with guys from to keep them from getting into good positions and if the refs were CHL refs, they'd spend half the game in the penalty box. Good to see Zach raise his game in the big ones.

I can see why his stats have dropped off from his London pace. DJ Smith rolls 4 lines and McCarron just isn't getting a lot of ice time. It's a balanced team, so no one gets that much time. His skating is good and his awareness is good. Three or 4 months in St. John's should do it. I'm still worried about Lefebvre's coaching, though, so McCarron may be handicapped.

There was some question whether McCarron tipped it with a high stick, but the goal stood. It was a close call and probably at or below the crossbar.

Tie game 1-1. At end of first, Oshawa 2, Quebec 1. McCarron with a nice pass to Dal Colle on a two on 1 for the go ahead goal. Good finish, roofing the puck on Fucale.
