ArticleI just heard on radio that the gunman is down. Started at the War Memorial. One solider shot. Then to Parliament Hill in the Centre Block. One body outside the door by the Library of Parliament. WTF? Where is the security? There will be now!

just listening live.
30 shots fired; assailant has been killed.
complaints recently that security too tight and that MPs have been delayed "by up to a minute" to get in. I think things are about to be beefed up big time.

The quick math would be a response to the government sending troops to fight ISIS.
As if we need another reason….
Of course, they walk among us….radicalization with crazy ideologies doesn't have borders.
I should wait to hear more….just my initial thoughts.

Police are now looking for multiple suspects. Perhaps I should wait to make this comment but here goes.
Is it finally time for rationality when it comes to radicalization in this country?
Problem is...it's often conducted under what we've somehow collectively accepted as the protective dome of a "holy temple".
Those buildings are simply that: buildings.
If they're being used to house/support/preach crackpot ideologies and criminal activities....forget the "respect for faith" argument.

except . . . more of the radicalization comes not from teaching in buildings of some sort (though some does), but via "the electronic media" -- the internet. it's -- we're -- already being monitored, and there is a push-back because it is an affront to freedom.
then, Martin Couture-Rouleau was being followed and talked to, but was allowed freedom until he did something. are we ready to give up freedom and allow martial law? maybe the Liberals were right in their ads that "Steven Harper is going to put soldiers in the streets".
again the big question is how in the world did the gunman get so far so fast?

Tough to do, yes....and all 3 monotheisms have utilized the dogma of divine authority for holy war.....but currently it's this faction of Islam that's the trouble. And since the order for such actions are found in their holy book and hadith....well, it doesn't take much to balloon into action. Islam needs a real reformation....but there are many sects, several of them adopting these insane doctrines. How? Tough to get to the core....but our country can certainly do all it can to stop it from fostering here. Starting with making it CLEAR that we will not tolerate those who are intolerable, regardless of what faith flag they fly. |
