Quite the night for our CHL guys as the playoffs kicked off.
Windsor beat London in a thriller (on tv) 4-3 in OT. Addison had two goals, including the GWG and a new contract, and Mete had a goal and an assist.
Owen Sound pounded Kitchener 9-1. That goalie guy was in net for the win.
Hamilton won 2-0, and Bitten scored both goals.
Pezzetta scored a goal in Sudbury's 5-2 win.
Bradley had a goal in Medicine Hat's 7-2 win, Everett won, and Bourque notched two assists as the SeaDogs pounded his old Rimouski team 9-2.

Jake Evans with the assists on both the tying and winning goal as Notre Dame beats Minnesota to advance to one of the NCAA regional finals. One step closer to the Frozen Four.

Busy rest of the weekend for playoffs.
The big news was Jake Evans and Notre Dame punched their ticket to the Frozen Four. Keep it going!
The Windsor-London game ended 5-2 today and the series is all tied up. Sergachev had a goal and an assist in the loss. The game was tight, 3-2 until a few empty net goals.
Hamilton and Bitten, Bourque and Saint John and Bradley and Medicine Hat are all up 2-0. The rest of the series are all tied up at one.

I guess Habs' management are enjoying the Windsor-London series, as they signed another drafted prospect playing in the series - Victor Mete. He has another year of junior eligibility left, so he will almost certainly play in London again next season and his ELC will slide a year.

I believe that he's wearing the jersey that was given to him when he was drafted. It has the number of the year he was drafted

Last night, McNiven and Owen Sound blanked the Rangers 4-0 to take a 2-1 series lead.
All other series are back in action tonight, although Addison has been suspended two games for a cross check last game. He received five plus a game for the hit originally.

All games but Everett's are final tonight. Four of our prospects' teams won tonight. Hamilton and London lost. Medicine Hat and Saint John are up 3-0, Hamilton, Sudbury, Windsor, Owen Sound are up 2-1. Everett and Victoria are one win each pending tonight's result.
Bourque and Bradley had assists, and Pezzetta scored his second of the playoffs.
Hamilton and Will Bitten will be in Sportsnet 360 on Thursday night.
EDIT: Juulsen and Everett won 2-0 last night. They are up 2-1 in their series now.

Bourque and Bradley and their teams are through to the second round, both with four game sweeps. Bourque had the series winning goal tonight.
McNiven gave up four goals uncharacteristically, but his high flying team scored 7 on an amazing 71 shots on net. Owen Sound are up 3-1 on Kitchener.
Juulsen and Everett are playing against Victoria right now.

Windsor over London 3-2 in OT. Now up 3-1 in the series. Sergachev with an assist. Addison will be back next game after serving his two game suspension.
Oshawa beat Sudbury 4-2 and Kitchener took it to Hamilton 5-1. Both series tied at 2 games each. Neither of our guys had points.

Would be nice to beat London. Windsor can make that happen tonight. Both Windsor and Owen Sound can wrap up their series tonight as both hold 3-1 leads going into action this evening.

McNiven has been a real surprise. You'd think he has to be in the top 5 goaltending prospects who are not yet pros.

On an episode of Coaches Corner, Cherry was talking about the Habs goaltending prospects... basically saying it was amazing that the habs has that many good goalie prospects. www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/coachs-corner-canadiens-prospect-good-price/

McNiven has been a real surprise. You'd think he has to be in the top 5 goaltending prospects who are not yet pros. He was just named as one of the nominees for the OHL goalie of the year and also as Owen Sound's nominee for the league's most valuable player. I know a lot of draft followers were surprised when he was not drafted. It is very rare that the Habs sign an undrafted 18 year old to an ELC, but they definitely made the right call rather than waiting and taking their chances in the next draft. Given how he played after the Habs signed him, he would not have been passed over a second time and would have cost a decent draft pick.

Owen Sound is through to round two.
Everett and Windsor both hold 3-2 series leads after last night's London win and Everett win.
London, Hamilton and Sudbury now down to their last life, down 3-2 in their series.

Game sevens are coming for two series so far. This afternoon, Addison had a hat trick, but it was not enough as London won 5-3. Mete had a helper in the win. Bitten had a goal as Hamilton bounced back to force game seven.
Juulsen and Everett can punch their ticket through to the next round if they can get by pesky Victoria tonight. Pezzetta is suspended as Sudbury faces elimination later today.

Everett Victoria tonight is insane. 140 minutes and 125 combined shots, and still 2-2 after 4 OT periods.
Juulsen with a goal. They are hoping to wrap it up.
Edit: the longest game in CHL history is over on the 141st shot. When you make 72 saves and lose, and go home. Everett through to round two.
In other news, Sudbury and Pezzetta are done in six. Ciao.

Kingston edges Hamilton (Bitten) 3-2 in OT to move on in game seven.
Ditto for London, although their 3-2 game did not go to extra time. They came back from being down 3-1 in the series. Mete had an assist.
Windsor now gets a huge layoff until they host the Memorial Cup. Not the warm up they were looking for, I am sure.

Our last NCAA prospect playing was eliminated last night, as Denver pounded Notre Dame 6-1 in the Frozen Four semis. Jake Evans had an assist on his team's lone goal. It will be interesting to see over the summer if he signs or goes back for his senior year. He has put up good numbers the last few years.
All five remaining CHL prospects are in action tonight. Saint John (Bourque), Medicine Hat (Bradley) and Everett (Juulsen) all play their first game of the second round. London (Mete) won 2-0 last night to go up 1-0 in their series, and SSM beat Owen Sound (McNiven) 4-1 a couple of nights ago to go up 1-0 in that series.
Windsor (Addison and Sergachev) get to practice and watch tape a whole lot between now and May when they host the Memorial Cup. No meaningful games for over a month is not an ideal preparation for the biggest prize in junior hockey.

The CHL playoffs are progressing, and some of our prospects are facing the potential end of their seasons as not all the series are going in their favour. Here is a quick update on the status of each series in which our guys are still playing:
Saint John (Bourque) - up in series 3-0. SeaDogs are top seed in the Q, so they are expected to make a good run. They could wrap things up tonight.
London (Mete) - down in their series with Erie Otters 2-1.
Owen Sound (McNiven) - the series is all tied up at 2-2. SSM took the first two games, and Owen Sound have stormed back with two straight wins of their own.
Everett (Juulsen) - lost in OT last night to go down 3-0 in their series with Seattle. Noah could be St. John's bound soon.
Medicine Hat (Bradley) - Lethbridge is playing the WHL 2nd seed really tough. This is a long-standing rivalry and Lethbridge won at home last night after splitting the first two games in the Hat. The Hurricanes are up 2-1 and the series resumes tonight. The Tigers have given up 12 goals in their two losses.

Magnus Nygren, captain of Farjestad, has opted out of his SHL deal and is moving to....nope, not North America, but to Davos in the Swiss NLA league. Guess we will see the Habs officially lose his rights this summer for nothing unless they are traded before June 30th. I was hoping to see how his offensive skillset matched up against others in camp in the fall...too bad.
