Dogs won the Championship, so we'll have Bourque to view at the Mem Cup. The Sea Dogs came out flying last night and never let up. Bourque did get a goal in the 5-1 win. The Armada tried to goon it a bit at the end, but too late. The Habs will now have three prospects in the Memorial Cup: Sergachev, Addison and Bourque. Makes it a bit more interesting for Habs prospect viewers!

Man, there's going to be a lot of rust on the Spitfires. Getting eliminated so early was a real punch in the gut.

Windsor is putting up a much better showing than I expected. Sergachev looks pretty good. I've seen a couple of times where he's lined up a winger for a hit along the boards and the winger has bailed out. He's also made some good outlet passes. He had one play at the blue line where the opposing defender expected him to wrist it at the net (the typical play), and instead Sergachev faked and went around him.
From the negative side, I think he has to finish his plays a bit more succesfully. For example, when he faked the winger and went around him, he tried a backhand pass to the opposite side that didn't get through. Nice try, but it's better when you complete those. I also think he could be a bit more 'energetic'. He looks like he's pacing himself. Perhaps he is and maybe he isn't and it just looks that way. A bit more effort gets him to the puck faster, or puts more distance between he and a backchecker.
Overall, he's looking very good.
PS. I've missed parts of the game, but he has at least one assist.

Serg finished with two assists. Addison with first goal of game. I only saw bits and pieces. Serg did have a big hit at the blue line in the second. His stick has a really flat lie. Chabot is flashier, but Serg is calm, cool and collected. He makes smart plays, high percentage plays.
Windsor played 54 minutes of nearly perfect hockey. A pp goal got the Sea Dogs going. They got it to 3-2, but couldn't tie it up.

The Sea Dogs had cruised through the playoffs, the Spits had bowed out in the first round. That result surprised me for sure. Anything can happen in short tournaments.
Decent showing for our three. That goal got off Addison's stick quickly and was a really nice snipe. Sergachev has a lot of raw tools and I expect can take it to a higher level or three as he further develops.

Watched part of the Seattle/Windsor game. May be its just me, but this is the least impressive 2-0 team I've seen in a long time. The parts of the game I watched, Seattle was all over Windsor. I saw the T-Birds score their goal and thought they'd be coming on. Stopped watching and see that Windsor won 7-1. Seriously? Seattle doesn't seem to have any luck at all except the bad variety. They literally dominated while I was watching. Maybe I should ask for money from them to watch more. In any case, not impressed with Windsor. Logan Brown and Logan Stanley look like giant pylons to me. I wonder how they will translate in the lightning fast new NHL.

I think they lead the league in goals against, or something along those lines. I only heard a few facts during their win over St John. In that game, I did notice Brown - in a bad way. He's slow. Slow of foot, and chasing the game. That's the way it looked to me during game one anyway. IMO, he's at best a McCarron clone. Imagine picking Mike #11 overall. They could have had McAvoy.

Teams still draft for massive size hoping for the next Chara. So far, nobody has found him. The mobile skilled guys are running the show now.

We draft the 6'6" man-child Mike McCarron, who let's face it, is never going to be a factor in the NHL. The very next pick, the Ducks take Shea Theodore who looks like he will be a fixture on the blueline for years.

It's not like McCarron was an off-the-board pick. I'm not prepared to label Mike a bust at this point. It took 7 years for Brian Boyle to become a regular. Boyle has played 3rd and 4th line roles in the NHL, and that's always the role I saw McCarron filling. I think Mike's a fixture on the 4th line next year, and likely sees some PP duty as a net presence. That would mimic Boyle pretty accurately.

I saw him play live in Kamloops vs the Blazers and he kept taking the puck end to end. Guys couldn't catch him, he is such a great skater. Sure, there were warts, but they weren't important ones and you start with speed. He looks like he has at least an average hockey IQ too. Most of us would trade McCarron for Theodore in a flash, now.

Mem Cup update - after 2 periods Erie demolishing St. John 9-3. 12-5 final. A record for the Mem cup. Strome with 7 points, also a record.

It is win or go home night for both Seattle and Saint John tonight, as the winner will get to play in the semi and the loser is done as they will have lost all three round robin games. Simon Bourque, does your junior career end tonight? Tune into Sportsnet if you want to see for yourself.
If anyone was doubting the dominance of that OHL western conference, they should not be any more. Erie, SSM, Owen Sound, London and Windsor all had more points that any team in the eastern conference. All things are pointing towards a highly probable Memorial Cup final between two teams from that list and conference.

I often hope for the WHL, because...well because I live out here. I don't know that much about Seattle other than Barzal. They lost a squeaker to Erie in game 1 and I can't help thinking they can beat Windsor (if they get past St. John). Trouble is, they have to play 3 games in 4 or 5 days to do it, and that's tough. Oh well.

Oh well. Without specific Habs' prospects to follow, I am with you. I cheer for the WHL because I see more of it than other leagues. Seattle is a good team, but they beat some better teams to get here. They toppled Everett in four straight (#9 seed in the final CHL rankings) and Regina (#1 CHL ranked team in the season ending rankings) in the WHL finals. I really thought Regina was coming out of the Dub. Saint John has seemed a bit out of synch this week, after cruising through the Q playoffs. I am going with Seattle tonight. Sea Dogs fans should be happy, as I no doubt have it all wrong.

6-0 Sea Dogs in the second. My forecasting sucks lol. What a crazy Memorial Cup with some of these scores so far.

Battle of the OHL western conference is on tonight to see who goes to the final, and who plays Saint John in the semi.
So far so good for our lads on Windsor, but that Erie offence can explode. DiPietro really playing well in net for the Spurs.

Final score 4-2 Windsor. Berg was in the house watching his lads score. Addison with three and Sergachev with the other. Great performance by draft eligible goalie DiPietro who stopped the high flying Otters from taking this one.
The Spits play in Sunday's final. Erie plays Saint John (Bourque) on Friday in the semi. All our guys are still playing for now.

Erie double up Saint John 6-3 in last night's semi. Bourque's junior career is now done.
Big OHL rematch for the Memorial Cup tomorrow between high flying Erie and our lads and their Windsor Spitfires. Should be a great match.
