Magnus Nygren, captain of Farjestad, has opted out of his SHL deal and is moving to....nope, not North America, but to Davos in the Swiss NLA league. Guess we will see the Habs officially lose his rights this summer for nothing unless they are traded before June 30th. I was hoping to see how his offensive skillset matched up against others in camp in the fall...too bad. That face looks too pretty to want to try playing in the AHL and NHL, enjoy your easy paycheque in a watered down pro league Magnus.

Bourque with one goal and three helpers, Saint John sweep 4-0 with a big 7-1 win tonight. Third round.
Medicine Hat got home ice back. 50 shots in regulation, but still needed OT to win in 3-2 and head back to the Hat all tied up at two a piece. Bradley with an assist on the GWG.

Sounds like he had the skill but some people just are not rugged enough to take the physical grin

I was hoping to see how his offensive skillset matched up against others in camp in the fall...too bad. That face looks too pretty to want to try playing in the AHL and NHL, enjoy your easy paycheque in a watered down pro league Magnus. Then again, maybe the NHL isn't for every player ... I remember the discussions here on the boards about him and, in very general terms, the gist of those discussions weren't all that positive ... he had the talent but the knock (with some) on him was that he couldn't handle the NA game ... I think what might have helped make his decision to return to Sweden might have been when his brother was mugged and robbed in Hamilton back in 2015 ... he was also being developed in a Michel Therrien-influenced system that was overseen by Sylvain Lefebvre ... that sounds unfair, sure, but all I have to do is look at the current Canadiens roster to see how many Lefebvre graduates are actually on the team right now ... Brendan Gallagher and Nathan Beaulieu are the only regulars on the current playoff roster who played under Lefebvre ... a case could be made for Mike McCarron, but he's not a regular just yet, IMO ... others who have played in that system have either had their kick at the cat with the big club already, are still in Hamilton or have been moved out of town ... to be fair to Magnus Nygren, he had 4 goals and 10 points in the 15 games he played with the Bulldogs in 2013-14 before he returned to Sweden ... again, IMO, he looked like he was catching on to the NA game at that point, but I really don't think his experience in Hamilton was all that good and, having said that, I really do think that incident involving his brother had an affect on making his decision to leave NA ... Cheers.

You can lead a person to water, but you can't make em drink it. I believe it's been documented that the main reason he went home was he didn't want to play in the AHL. If he was looking for a one way contract from Montreal, he was never going to get a better chance at one. I get the idea of being able to play closer to home. He'll be in a competitive league, and is a much shorter flight to and from Sweden. Still, we can't have prospects dictating terms. As unfortunate it is that we'll lose him, there has to be a UFA out there who's just as good and interested in North America.

Juulsen and Everett are done in four straight. A rather sad end to his junior career.
Owen Sound have now won three straight and lead their series 3-2.
Medicine Hat is in need of a win or else, as they are now down 3-2 in their battle with Lethbridge.

Fucale joined Brampton after his short stint in St. John's and got the start in their second playoff game. The Beast won 2-1 in OT and Fucale got the win with 30 saves. That first round series is all tied up at one a piece.
London lost last night, so now trail 3-2 in their OHL series. Mete and buddies now face an elimination game again after winning three straight against Windsor in the first round.

Big night in the CHL playoffs.
McNiven shuts the door with a 23 save shutout as they come back from being down 2-0 in the series, and winning four straight. Round three.
Mete had a helper as London played Erie tough and won 2-1 in OT and forced game seven. London are already 4-0 in elimination games this playoffs, and round two is still going.
Bradley potted two goals and an assist as Medicine Hat stayed alive and forced game seven with a big 5-2 win tonight.

Nothing to do with our prospects but Swift Current Broncos and the CHL's #1 team are going to game 7 tonight, would be quite something if little speedy creek were to pull off the huge upset. Go Broncos! How's Sergachev been doing?

Two more prospects all done tonight, and both in OT in game seven.
Bradley and Medicine Hat are out as are Mete and London.
Fucale stingy again, only giving up one goal against, as Brampton win 2-1 and take a 2-1 series lead in their first round series.

Sergachev's team is hosting the Memcup correct? Yes, so he and Addison will be playing in May after a long layoff (they lost to London in round 1 of OHL playoffs). Simon Bourque (Saint John) and Michael McNiven (Owen Sound) are both headed to the third round of their respective playoffs.

The Sea Dogs keep cruising. Bourque with a goal and they win 4-1 to open their third round series. McNiven not so fortunate. He was pulled after giving up five goals as Erie pounded Owen Sound 6-1 to open that series.
Both teams are back at it tonight, as is Fucale and Brampton who are all tied up at two apiece in their first round series.

Owen Sound even things up 4-3 in OT. They came back from being down a pair.
The Sea Dogs will not sweep. They lost in OT and their series is all tied up 1-1.

Fucale made 43 saves as Brampton won 2-1 in 2OT to take a 3-2 series lead.
Too bad all these goalie prospects can't score.
Edit: Fucale playing well in his first ECHL playoffs. 4 gp, 3-1 record, 1.25 gaa, and .954 svg.

Not most skill though. Not sure how that will prove out. Rare Being in Halifax area, I can tell you that he had a Palmateer-like quality. It boiled down to focus largely. He could make the impossible save look easy and the easy save look impossible. Most nights, he was very good. He's a very good athlete, but played a style that made him look small in the net. I think that's the main reason he's had to go down to the ECHL. He was getting lit up by guys who were more able to pick corners. I'm liking that he's taken it as a challenge. He's working hard to better himself as a player. He'll be 22 in a month. Still lots of time to develop him.

Goalies, goalies, goalies.
Fucale with 40 saves, giving up just one goal. Brampton wins their first round series 4-2.
McNiven makes 32 saves in a 6-3 win over Erie. Good guys up 2-1.

Simon Bourque had an assist as Saint John SeaDogs won 4-0 in game two of the Q finals last night. They now take a 2-0 series lead against Blainville-Boisbriand. Edging towards a Memorial Cup berth.

Pretty sad attendance. Harbour Station is a 6400 seat arena (I checked lol). It might have been half full.

I watched parts of Bourque's game yesterday. He seemed ok, but didn't do anything that made me think that he's a prospect who can make the Habs. He's scored well and perhaps it just wasn't his best game. I didn't see his assist. Was it a primary one?

Simon Bourque and Saint John Sea Dogs on TV tonight
The top ranked QMJHL team is one win away from a four game sweep of the Armada in the Q finals. A win tonight would secure them a berth in the Memorial Cup in Windsor.
Catch the game on Sportsnet 360 tonight at 7:30 pm EDT if you are looking for something other than NHL games seven!!
