I think he's 3rd line center. Marleau and Hyman will slot in on the wings of the top six. Who knows if he'll be happy about that ice time, regardless of Cup chances. His stock had risen under Babcock's tutelage. On the surface he is, what with his tweet today, but underneath I doubt it.

whatever. until they improve theG and D, "No Cup for you". They'll fight with TBay to be "just so close". They might just "Oiler" their way to one. Matthews-Nylander and Tavares-Marner is a modern version of that 80s Oilers quartet. TSN talking about it now, offer sheets will be a real fear for a few guys next summer. If I'm another team, I'm doing it to squeeze them and put as much cap pressure on them as possible. The offer sheet route may be the only way to slow them. That offense looks pretty scary. Maybe Lamoriello gets some revenge that way. What a crap day. Bergevin is busy signing minor leaguers while the team I hate more than any other gets the big prize. Thank you MB, & Molson, he's just a modern day Harold Ballard.

Something else to consider. After the playoffs, there were rumblings that there was some kind of rift between Babcock and Matthews--to the point of Babcock flying to Arizona for a discussion. The Leafs have been Matthews's team....until now. Tavares will be THE MAN as #1 centre. How will Matthews handle it? The Leaf-despiser in me hopes there's a lot of bruised ego in Toronto.... But, honestly--as last year--I'm happy for Leafs' fans. I work downtown, and it's nice to see most people in a good mood again. PLUS, it SHOULD put more pressure on Molson to get out of the way!

The last two or three years have been very hard on how players/agents perceive Montreal around the league. A day like today drives home the point that guys are happy to give up a few dollars and/or some term in order to ply their craft for organizations run by smart people.

This except for the part about being happy for Leaf fans. Sorry, just can't do it. Right now, being a sports fan in Montreal just stinks. There are no good teams & not a lot of hope. It's the opposite in Toronto. CFL and MLS championships last fall, a good Raptors team & now this. The contrast is stark.

If all the egos work out, they are definitely en route to challenging for the big prize. Exciting hockey is a given now. I'll likely watch a lot more of their games this year....just for the entertainment value. Their PP will be outstanding.

Lots of optimism in Leaf land. true, but it doesn't mean a thing unless "there is a parade" true, but it doesn't mean a thing unless "there is a parade". challenging is not enough.

Roussel also signs with Canucks for 4 years and $12 million. That's a lot between him and Beagle for role guys.

Good for him ... don't know if Vegas will repeat what they did last year, they'll still be a decent team ... Cheers.

Kind of agree with Brian Burke. Because of McDonagh's style of play this will be a good deal for about 4 of those years. I'm thinking 3 of those years. Yzerman is really playing the 'all in' card now. I'd be picking up the phone and asking about Ryan Callahan and Libor Hajek or Brett Howden or Alexander Volkov or a combination of those guys.

That's why I said I'd take a true challenger any day in Montreal over what we have now....and over what our future appears to be... Who here wouldn't want to have the Leafs' and Habs' current situations switched at the moment? That's all I'm saying. I'd still be more than okay if the Leafs continue to fall short....but it wouldn't bother me one iota if they won a Cup in the Tavares-Matthews era. I respect how they've gone about a serious rebuild.
