Yeah, it will be interesting to see what happens to the d-men who are above Chiarot such as Chychrun, Lindholm, and Klingberg. I think there is a chance that none of them get traded. Arizona has no reason to cave in now when they can have expansive bidding with the entire league before the draft if they still want to deal him. Anaheim should, with a team that improved quite a bit this year, want to keep a top-pair 28 year old d-man. Maybe Lindholm's ask is crazy but I sure would try to re-sign him if I were Verbeek. And Klingberg's team is right in the thick of the playoff race so trading him would be a slap in the face to the guys in the room.
I had not previously considered Carolina a serious front-runner for Chiarot, but maybe they are. I still think the most likely partners for Montreal will be Florida, New York, and St. Louis. I would probably place Carolina in the pack with Toronto, Boston, Calgary and Edmonton.

That is my first thought. And, does Dallas still stay in a buyer’s mode to keep competitive in that tight Western wildcard race? They are hanging on to the last spot right now but there are a number of teams breathing down their neck. Do Petry calls ramp up again with Dallas? The teams have been scouting each other lately (not a unique occurrence this time of year of course). I did not see a lot of teams that would take on Petry before the summer, but Dallas may be one. There would have to be some salary dump coming back in addition to whatever prime asset(s) Horton would be asking.

This is one of those advanced stats I don't get. Who would you rather have on the team - Panarin of Lehkonen. ?

These have to be lowball calls. That contract value and term is not something that should be easy to move now that Armia has reverted back into his normal looking good once every 10-20 games (when he is healthy). I can’t see a team taking his deal on, but boy if Hughes could pull that rabbit out of a hat!

I perfectly understand why teams would want a big strong on the puck type winger like Armia in the playoffs, but I have to imagine most GMs would find the thought of having three more years at $3.4 per a little unsettling because Armia is simply not engaged on a consistent basis. Frankly, I doubt he moves. And oddly enough, I would not be surprised if the enigmatic Armia gets back on track next season.

Armia the poster boy for all the tools and no toolbox I think he has a toolbox. He just forgets where he left it 90% of the time. Hope any team even thinking of trading for him (still a bit gobsmacked that this might even be possible) are watching lots of his playoffs video from last summer. He was good then. Way better than normal Armia. Berg fell for it come contract talk time. And signed Lehky to a one year deal. Whoopsie

I have mentioned before that Berg very much favoured guys he could put his stamp on compared to guys the team drafted, who would have the Timmins stamp on them. This is just another example. His tenure frustrates me even more looking back on what he didn't accomplish. The whole Armia thing is a great example. Ron Francis solved a contract problem for Chicago (Bickell) by taking Terevainen off their hands. Francis added a 2nd and 3rd rounder to his part of the deal, but that's fair...cause Terevainen was a 21 year old who hadn't quite proved himself, but was looking like the real deal. Bergevin also used his cap space, fixing a CAP problem for Cheveldayoff (Steve Mason)and proudly held up his prize of Joel Armia who was 25 years old (fully developed) and had averaged .31 ppg in his two most recent seasons. Berg spent his valuable CAP resources on a 4th line winger. Francis picked up a 1st line winger. I was so ticked off at the time, and I still am.

For sure, an injury to Chychrun would be instrumental. However, I continue to believe that even if he totally healthy the Coyotes have no compelling reason whatsoever to trade him. He is a top pair 23-24 year old d-man on a really nice contract. Bill Armstrong will either come his senses and simply keep a piece like Chychrun for the long-term or he will trade him in the summer when far more teams can join the bidding.
I also tend to think Lindholm and Klingberg are more off the board than on the board. If Verbeek offers Lindholm 7x7 or 5x8 does the Swede say no? Dallas wants to make the playoffs because they hold the conviction that their team is built for the postseason. I do not see ownership allowing management to trade him unless they fall in the standings very quickly or else in the event that a trade can orchestrated to bring in a offensive top four RHD to fill the void and keep the playoff train moving forward.

I don't get the Chychrun reports either. Why would he even be available? He's exactly the type of playr a bad team can build around.
And with Heiskanen out indefinitely with mono I don't think Klingberg is going anywhere.

My brother in law thinks this year's deadline is a buyers market and he was telling me solid d-men could end going for bargain prices. It is possible, but I told him I think that it is likely wishful thinking on the part of fans of playoff teams. The reality is quite a few guys may not be moved. If Chychrun, Lindholm, and Klingberg are suddenly not on the market for various reasons, then it is not exactly a buyers market anymore.

Well now. And Manson is the first D deal. I see Chiarot moving quickly now. Just takes one to start the run.

Helleson is a B-tier prospect, basically on the fringe of just inside or just outside Colorado's top 10 prospects. Therefore, I would say his maximum value is equivalent to a late second rounder. So basically, it is not unreasonable to say Anaheim got two second rounders for Manson or perhaps the equivalent of a second and a third.
Tying this back to Montreal's d-man, I think Chiarot over the last three seasons has clearly outperformed Manson. In other words, whoever lands Chiarot will have to pay somewhat more than what Colorado just paid for Manson. Plus, Chiarot's contract at 50 percent retained is a bit smaller than Manson's.
I still think the odds are in favor of none of Klingberg, Lindholm, and Chychrun ultimately getting traded. This would be obviously make the demand for and price for Chiarot climb even higher.

And it does’t hurt that Chiarot has all of a sudden put up 9 points in his last 9 games. Hopefully Hughes is spamming GMs with video highlights of Chiarot’s best physical play from last year’s run to the finals.

Perreault on waivers this close to the deadline is interesting. Some of the beat writers suggest it is to make room for an injured player, likely Dvorak. That could be. But with Ylönen up they could just send him down as he does not need to clear and bring him back up after the deadline.
Or there could be more in play. Horton could be hoping that a team claims him to open up another roster spot. They may have some deals in play that involve multiple players coming back for roster players leaving. That would be a net plus on the 50 contract limit, and the Habs are at 47. Or, they could have a team interested in trading for him but want him to clear waivers first so they can keep him in the AHL until needed (any team up against the cap, not wanting to waive someone else to make room, etc.).
Or it could be to make room for both Dvorak and Drouin, in which case Ylönen goes down and they still need another body, thus Perreault.
It is probably just because Dvorak/Drouin are coming back, but I like to have fun throwing out other scenarios. I am a bit surprised they are bringing either back before the deadline unless there is some talks involving one or both. They could just have easily Kucherov’ed them until after the TDL.

I have been thinking Chiarot will end up in St. Louis or Florida. Even with getting rid of Vatrano, the Panthers have virtually no cap room. So they need a relatively modest contract (Chiarot's) at 50 percent retention. Also, their prospect pool is rather weak so I just do not see Florida possessing the asset juice to acquire a d-man of Lindholm, Klingberg, or Chychrun's ilk (and to be honest, I am not really sure any of those three even get dealt).

Man, some of the guys on TSN are not particularly astute. Just yesterday, that Leafs-homer Johnston said with such great certainty that the price for Manson sets the market for guys like Chiarot. I mean, come on, has this guy even watched Manson play hockey over the last three seasons? Chiarot has been a much better player over that time span and, sure enough, GMs around the league knew the price for Manson would not be the price for Chiarot.
Manson was a finished product by his mid-20s and thus he was a cut above Chiarot at that stage of their careers. But Chiarot kept growing and progressing and Manson actually regressed.
