I only attended one game there eons ago (late-90s) and I loved the fans, acoustics, and atmosphere. But apparently, aside the abject joke of Arizona, the consensus seems to be that in today's NHL, Calgary's arena is the worst. Who knows how much that is driving the line of guys queuing up to get out of town, but it probably has some influence.

Frank Seravalli reporting that the Bruins have moved Hall and Foligno to Chicago, no salary retained.
Hall's cap hit is 6 million. Foligno is UFA.

Calgary is a great city. Weather can change quickly, but the weather in Montreal is quirky as well, is it not? The city itself is much more enjoyable to me than Edmonton, for example. I can understand Toffoli preferring Montreal since it seems they built some good connections there, but that's relationships, not the city. Too bad he wasn't 23 years old.

Kevin Hayes traded to Blues for a 6th rounder in 2024.
I know he has 3 years left with an AAV over 7 million but that return seems lkke a pittance.

I hate to see Boston find a way to painlessly clear cap. But a lot of hockey observers and Insiders have been suggesting that Chicago feels an obligation to improve the roster for Bedard's sake. And while I would not want Hall on the Habs, I think he can still skate and play at a relatively high level.
It is crazy that retaining 50 percent on Hayes is only worth a 6th round pick. But guys on the back nine and making serious money just do not have much value in a stagnant hard cap world.

Shara was redundant in NJ plans becauee they have 3 centers far better then him. Was available earlier on and value of a late second or less. He only had 3 playoff games so i don't know if he was a healthy scratch. I would put him at the same level as Dvorak and current level Newhook.

Someone should put together some kind of spreadsheet with values for CAP space depending on the amount and length of the contract and the amount of space held by a team (the less space, the more valuable the CAP space created). Not me...I like to delegate those things.

I read a tweet this morning that quoted Frank Seravelli as saying that Hughes is deliberating over 5 offers for the #5 pick. Love it. Take someone to the cleaners, Kent and still get the guy we want.

Colorado just traded the 37th overall for Ross Colton. Not a big surprise since the Avalanche are win now and, while they got good value for Newhook, those two picks were not helping them when it really matters.
I hear that too, seventeen. Seravelli generally knows what he is talking about. I wonder who the five teams are. I certainly think Philadelphia, Washington, and Detroit are interested in Michkov. Could St. Louis be sniffing around. Could some of the teams calling Hughes want to make a deal for #5 even if Michkov is gone?

If the guy they want is still available at 5 then Hughes calls them, completes the deal with them and confirms with NHL trade centre. Blandman than announces the trade, (in his own inimitable style, to use a Looney Tunes quote).

And signed Perry to 4 million a year. And what the hell is going on in Nashville. They just bought out 3 years of Duchesne after getting rid of Johannson for nothing.

For sure, they need to get to the floor. And they are trying to bring in leaders with a nasty streak (Perry, Foligno) to make the young guys understand that losing is one thing and losing while being soft is another.
Basically, Foligno and Perry are getting crazy money for a season to compensate them for forgoing a run at the Cup (Foligno does not have his name on it) and having to eat 50 shet sandwiches on the scoreboard. They are making so much money most contenders would not even have room for them at the deadline.
I hope after the UFA dust dies down that Blackhawks is still looking to upgrade and tosses Montreal a pick for Chicago area native Dvorak.

The weird valuations in recent trades makes me e pect we won't see Hughes doing much other than the odd depth moves.
Anderson and Dvorak are likely unmovable despite being good players, though I always wonder if someone needs a center...
And I think the lack if cap room will force us to keep Edmundson...
So many unqualified RFAs, including Poehling, because no one can afford a 2M arbitration award for a support player.

The NHL is slowly becoming the league of have and have nots on a team. 5 or 6 players making big money and 5 or 6 making league minimum up to 1.5M

A few Habs/Rocket guys signed to new teams today.
Veteran forward and ex-Rocket captain Alex Belzile signed for two years with the NYR. One year is two way and the other year is one way.
Sniping forward Anthony Richard signed a one year deal with the arch rival Bruins. 🤮

Bruins will give him #9 just to be assholes Edit: 9 is retired... they'll give him 16.

Belzile was a nice story during the long injury-plagued slog to the finish line. But the dude is like 31 or 32 years old. He is not a NHL prospect. The bigger offensive roles in Laval need to be reserved for kids like Roy, Mysak, Mesar, and Farrell. I am sure Hughes will ensure that the Rocket have some vets around (hopefully one or two mean nasty ones), but at long last Montreal's AHL team is filling up with actual prospects.
I bet Laviolette is thrilled. He already has a handful of guys famous for tuning out coaches and now Drury dumps Wheeler into the room. I guess Drury is just randomly pressing buttons and pulling levers because he may be the one getting fired next April.
Carolina kept their goalie tandem together on the cheap. That organization annoys me, but good on them for smart negotiations.
Treliving is apparently trying to address the toughness issue on the Leafs by signing Reaves. Look, I am a big proponent of having guys who play with an edge and defend their mates, but the problem with Reaves is he cannot skate well enough to actually forecheck or do much of anything in today's NHL. $1.35 million for a guy that will be the 13th forward more than a few nights and only play 7-8 minutes when he is in the lineup seems kind of goofy for a team with the Leafs' cap challenges.

I doubt Richard ever suits up for Boston, aside from preseason. Even in an organization with almost no prospects, 27 year old Anthony Richard does not constitute an NHLer. He can score in the AHL and Boston makes a point of always trying to have a winning team in Providence.
