So, the question is, how will Brad Treliving free up that cap space ... is there a trade coming ... trading one of the Flab 4, at this point, would probably help that ... Cheers. They still have to sign Samsonov as well...need someone to take Murray off their hands as well The cap for the 2023-24 season will be $83.5 million ... Steve Dangle briefly talks about cap space on his podcast ...

Zadina on waivers.
I thought he was "a young prospect" and giving up too early, but now he's 23 and a clear bust.
KK and him were the talk of the draft, but more sour milk the rising cream...

Steve Dangle briefly talks about cap space on his podcast ... The Leafs, are $3.2M over the cap with Muzxin LTIR included. They still have to sign Samsonov, he's an RFA with Arb rights, he'll get more than the leafs want to pay. And they have to do something with $4.7M cap hit from Murray.

Murray is an albatross with the $4.7 AAV and even bigger ($8 million) real money to chew on, so that makes it very unlikely a pauper org like the Coyotes would take the contract even if the Leafs pony up a serious asset.
There is a second buyout window later this month, no?

Odd move by Zadina to “bet on himself”. You know the current offers will be lowball, league minimum salaries on a short “show me” deals from teams. Guess he is still not filling the Montreal net with goals for not picking him. 😉

Too bad Zadina wasn't a right winger, might be a cheap 1 year contract

I feel for him. A kid who helps trainers unload equipment from a bus in Juniours has a thumbs up in my book. Unfortunately, there's something missing in his game (processing the play at speed? foot speed?). Unless it's something that is fixable, better to stay away.

Yeah, I don't think I'd be giving up $4.5 million to get Detroit out of a jam.
He will never recoup that money

I concur. Zadina seems like a good kid, but that is a really poor decision.
At the very least he should have forced Yzerman's hand and Detroit would have bought him out (1/3 of the remaining contract would have been recouped) and then signing for league min somewhere would have been less bad.

Red Wings now report he's waived for the purposes of terminating his contract. He'll be bought and be a UFA. That's betting on yourself. Someone will give him the minimum contract, probably 2 way and throw a dart.

I'm wondering if the Habs could make a play for Tarasenko, on a 1-year deal. He clearly missed out on the first wave of deals and the number of teams with caproom will be smaller... why not take a 1-year deal in an unexpected market, bet on himself, return to UFA status with a rising cap and competent agents (he just fired the agents who didn't get him a deal)
Habs could have a high-end forward to rent off at the deadline... I know we have too many bodies up front already, but if adding him means sending Hoffman down, why not ?

I think talent wise the leafs are the same... bertuzzi =o'reilly Klinger = Schenn Reaves =Simmonds Domi =Acciari Domi is only 28 but now on his 7th team. His best season was 2018/19 in Montreal & he hadn't come close to that 72 points since.

Is MThead now a players agent and advised Zadina?
This was an uber stupid move by Zadina and frankly, if he has an agent, he should be shot, drawn and quartered.
No, I don't think we should take a chance on him even at league minimum. He's a soft scorer so he doesn't score, he takes up space.

BUT he can score and frankly, he may make a 10 point difference were we finish in the teens. He can also re-injure himself and worth nothing.

Wow, 29 years old , lots of money made & this is how it ends. After a decent start that included a 30 goal season, the guy just fell off a cliff.
Had a look at that 2012 draft. There were some good players near the top like Morgan Reily & Filip Forsberg but its clear that the best guy there was Vssilevsky at #19.

Yeah, for sure, Vasilevskiy is #1, he's a HOFer. Forsberg and Reilly are outstanding players too.
Assuming Galchenyuk is just a hockey player looking for his next paycheque then I would assume he ends up in the KHL making maybe 60 percent of what he could have made this season on the NHL min. Though I guess on the off chance that he feels too North Americanized to suck it up and live in a sinking police state, then I have no idea what his next move would be.
