Bunting to Carolina - 3 years x 4.5. Yikes.
They do know that he doesn't come with Marner & Matthew's right?

It seems strange a contending team like the Panthers traded a good winger like Duclair who was not making major coin ($3 AAV). I think they are done tinkering on the blue line. And their expensive goalie combo is not going anywhere. So one has to wonder if with the 3-4 million in cap space at their disposal they are trying to talk Kane or Tarasenko into taking a club-friendly contract.

Galchenyuk back to Arizona on a 2-way.
How does 30 year old Scott Mayfield get a 7 year contract. Or for that matter how does Pierre Engvall get 8. That's insane. No one else would give those two that kind of term.

I think LL is losing it. Long term deals to those guys at the bottom of the roster make no sense.
And is this Galchrnyuk's 3rd go in Arizona?

Yeah, I think Lamoriello is desperate to keep the window, no matter how slightly, open in the here and now. So he is willing to shave AAV down a touch or two by giving overly generous term. But, man, for guys like Mayfield and Engvall I would opine that whoever is the next GM of the Islanders, life is not going to be easy.

It's not as if NYI were in a clear winning wondow where they have a magic combination they can't or don't dare split... This is inflicting future pain without commensurate present day gain.

Anybody has thoughts on the Leafs? They have nothing after the big 4 up front and their defence is Swiss cheese. They need to trade Marner for 2 players making 5 million or 3 players making 4M. Then they could ctually have a 3rd line.

A few Habs/Rocket guys signed to new teams today. Veteran forward and ex-Rocket captain Alex Belzile signed for two years with the NYR. One year is two way and the other year is one way. Sniping forward Anthony Richard signed a one year deal with the arch rival Bruins. 🤮 Whew. Too much hope around the team about 2 guys who were never going to be part of the future. All the best to them. I hope they can make a career in the NHL, but not on the Habs.

Carolina kept their goalie tandem together on the cheap. That organization annoys me, but good on them for smart negotiations. They annoy me too. I cannot figure why almost every bloody player keeps giving them home town discounts even if they aren't from Raleigh. What is so enjoyable about living in North Carolina? Taxes? Hmmmm. There's a flat income tax rate in North Carolina of 4.99%. In B.C. it's around 10% for a middle earner and it's likely around that neighbourhood in most provinces. The marginal tax rate would be higher for most Sales tax....State and county sales taxes are 7%. As we know, except for Alberta most provinces have a combined GST and provincial tax of 12% or more. Maybe there's a reason players like North Carolina that has nothing to do with hockey. Also, it's not as not as Florida or Texas, where taxes are even lower. They probably pay through the nose in those places for the electricity to run their A/C.

Bunting to Carolina - 3 years x 4.5. Yikes. They do know that he doesn't come with Marner & Matthew's right? The Canes are a very, highly. maniacally stats driven organization. But I'm not sure what Bunting does that attracted him to them? Is Eric Tulsky losing influence in the franchise? Bunting wasn't even a ppg player in the AHL, which is a yardstick for scoring potential in the NHL. He'll be 28 in September. I would love to know how many of his assists were primary ones. Playing with Marner and Matthews is going to give you time and space because of the worry over those two. Carolina doesn't have anyone who scares opponents more than Matthew and Marner. Not even Aho. Maybe Waddell is finally gaining power in the organization.

My new cable package doesn't have Sports net, only TSN and man ar they lame. They did a wrap up of free agent day with the host asking for winners and losers. They actually had Nashville as a winner and a loser. And Toronto who lost Holl, Schenn, Bunting, Acciari, Kerfoot and O'Reilly and replaced them with Klingberg and Reavres ( on a 3 year deal) aren't even mentioned.

Poulin is bitter because he was fired as leafs assistant gm many moons ago.
Mike Johnson is pretty Bias. He destroyed the signing of Reeves and said Matthews is foing to push for 14.5M on his next contract. Plus he is right. The Leafs have no scoring after the top 4. Kampf is their 5th highest paid forward at 2.4. Shows you how bad their depth is.

These are significant moves for the Leafs ... both Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi replaces the sandpaper the Leafs lost when Nazem Kadri left ... they'll be able to play their game with Ryan Reaves picking up for them ... still not convinced they have the goaltending, but that'll be another thread ... Cheers.
