Hartman and a third ... That's all it took to get Simmonds.
Might as well throw up the white flag Bergevin.
At these prices, you'd think he'd pick up someone ...

For value, in terms of what's on paper, I suppose comparative value is Lehkonen. I think Arturri is a smarter player; a 3 zone player. Hartman is a pest type with limited offense. We're approaching a crossroads with Lehkonen in terms of prospects, need to add goals, and his struggles to score since his rookie year. Would I do that deal? I think so.

Joel Armia and a second rounder Armia's highest season was 29 points, Hartman's 31 Hartman currently with 20 points, Armia has 13 Hartman is a pest, Armia ia a pest ... Not one of us would have complained if we lost Armia and a second rounder for Simmonds. (Maybe not even Lehkonen, but I think he will start producing next year)

We don't know IF Berg reached out or if he did, what the Flyers would have wanted. Berg said he wouldn't mortgage picks for rentals. To my knowledge he may not have said he wouldn't trade a current roster player. At any rate, we'll likely never know.

Beaulieu to Blues for a 6th rounder (to Sabres). Beau to the Jets. They did a lot of depth tinkering today after getting Hayes. The arms race in the West sure heated up.

Last year and this years draft better pan out or MB better start looking for a new place to live.

Last year and this years draft better pan out or MB better start looking for a new place to live. Wishful thinking... millions in cap savings means MB stays put... if they get 1 round in molson gets another few mill on top of all the cap money MB made him.

Last year and this years draft better pan out or MB better start looking for a new place to live. 17 and 18 look strong. We'll see what they can add this year. Where they slot in - if they make the playoffs and DON'T go on a run - projects pretty darn well. There are some players in that 15-20 range that would go higher in other years.

I understand everyone's logic, I just don't agree with sending our team to the wolves and standing pat when we are this competitive. Aye, there's the rub. I don't think we're anywhere near competitive. I don't want to waste future assets gaining an extra round in this year's playoffs. There are about 5 or 6 teams that are better than we can be after we make whatever moves. Do we have a Brannstrom to give to Ottawa for Stone? Would it matter? We might have a 20% chance of a Cup win if we gave up Brook, Poehling, Romanov and Suzuki, but where does that leave us? Having an team that will just make the playoffs, until Weber slows down further, Petry loses that step that makes him so good, Shaw gets another concussion, etc.

Devils trade Kincaid to Jackets for a 5th in '22. Getting traded for a 5th three years from now. That stings. Could be at least 5 years from now for that pick to turn into a pro. That's cheap insurance. Kinkaid is ok.

I wasnt expecting anything big but when I see what Simmonds went for I shake my head. IMO he could make a difference & a 3rd or 4th round pick isn't mortgaging the future.
A couple of losses & they are out of a wild card. What does he say then?

Will anyone show up to Sens games anymore? What a gong show. Brannstrom is a very good defensive prospect. Saw him live at the WJC this year. But he is small. And he won't help right away. Can't help thinking Ottawa blew this one too. Brannstrom would have to be a near franchise player to justify being traded one for one with Stone. Obviously I wouldn't trade McDavid or Matthews or Mackinnon for Stone, but that next tier, yes? If it was just a rental, it makes more sense, but with STone under contract for 8 years, that trade seems awfully weak to me. If Bransstrom doesn't turn into another Karlssson, it's a bust.

They're in the painful process of passing a stone. Stone Age. Impartially, they've got some good young pieces. Chabot, Brannstrom, White, Formenton, Tkachuk; that's a good group to build around. But they had Karlsson and Stone, two elite guys and Duchene, who is close. Chabot may end up there and we'll have to see about Brannstrom, but it's crazy to give up elite players. They are so hard to replace.

Maybe a Baron's ransom. Seemed to be a buyer's market for the bsst guys.

Looking forward to seeing a Gudbransom/Johnson defence pairing in PIttsburgh. I didn't think anyone could challenge Malakhov/Quintal, but those two might.

Everyone agrees that it was likely wrong to keep the first last year, but it's not like Tkachuk is a slouch.

I don't think I can recall a player less interested in being where he was than Murray Baron when he came to Montreal with Corson.
