Popovic, Baron? I don't think I can recall a player less interested in being where he was than Murray Baron when he came to Montreal with Corson. LOL - the infamous Baron von Pylon. Every shift screamed " get me out of here" It's a special kind of talent that acquires a nick name having only played part of one season with a team.

I understand everyone's logic, I just don't agree with sending our team to the wolves and standing pat when we are this competitive. Aye, there's the rub. I don't think we're anywhere near competitive. I don't want to waste future assets gaining an extra round in this year's playoffs. There are about 5 or 6 teams that are better than we can be after we make whatever moves. Do we have a Brannstrom to give to Ottawa for Stone? Would it matter? We might have a 20% chance of a Cup win if we gave up Brook, Poehling, Romanov and Suzuki, but where does that leave us? Having an team that will just make the playoffs, until Weber slows down further, Petry loses that step that makes him so good, Shaw gets another concussion, etc. I realize you meant Stone to be an example ... But I've been lobbying for the guys going for draft picks, NOT prospects. I've also been saying for weeks that players WILL go for second and third rounders and we should consider those guys. There is no rub or mortgaging the future involved Then to hear Bergevin today say the prices were too high and we'd call him an idiot if he made the deals ... To me that implies he was going for players that would take roster players and prospects. And if so, he is an idiot ... Cause all this team needed was Nyqvist, or Simmonds (a second liner). Most posters have thrown in the towel because we won't win a Cup, but they all argree that playoff hockey would be beneficial to development. Then wouldn't winning a round or two be even better to development. If everyone has conceded that we aren't beating Tampa, I think a second rounder is a good price to help us into the Metropolitan bracket and get the Isles in the first round ...they could, with some minor help, win that side in my opinion.

I also wonder about the whole "he didn't make a trade so Molson could have more money in his pockets" schtick. Doesn't winning a playoff round put money there too? Not only ticket sales but BEER sales.
I'da gone for Simmonds anyway since he wouldn't be a 3rd or 4th liner!

MB has always been risk averse unless he hates someone or loves someone (PK or Shawsie), then he'll do whatever it takes... I mean really... 2 seconds for Shaw? What would we have gotten for 2 2nds this trade deadline?
